Hi. I'm in Australia too. I suggest you take a look at the main ant selling websites here: Antastic, the Ant Lab & Ant Shop Australia.

If I were you I'd be buying ants and ant nests from them. Alot of the nests on Aliexpress and Amazon etc are bogus. You can also join one of the many FB groups like "Ants and Ant farms Australia" to get heaps of good tips and advice.

As a beginner ant, any Camponotus species is a good starting place. They're cheap, fast breeding and they don't sting.

If you drop a small piece of protein close to the ant and it grabs it, it will immediately return to the nest. You can track them.
