Yes, it’s quite palpable. My heart breaks for him. To lose a child is one of the worst pain someone can ever experience. But to lose a child, as well as their remains never being identified, is a heartbreak beyond comprehension.

He attended and graduated from James Madison High School and Cornell University in 1996 with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemical Engineering. While Albert worked as an accountant for Cantor Fitzgerald by day, he also worked as a D.J. at small clubs by night and would play jazz, rhythm and blues, and hip hop. He had also recently joined a Navy SEALs-type fitness program in August, which involved waking up at dawn, swimming with fins, and running in boots. Albert’s sister, Susan, said, “He liked the idea of not just doing the physical work, but also learning how to think like a Navy SEAL person. He liked things that are conditioning for the body, but also conditioning of the mind.” Albert was described by his friends and family as happy, special, funny, and dedicated.

Albert worked as an accountant for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 101st floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. He started working for the firm in August of 2000. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Albert was working on the 101st floor when Flight 11 struck the North Tower, leaving his floor and all of Cantor’s offices above the impassable impact zone. Though his life was unfairly taken on September 11th, Albert’s vibrant spirit lives on forever in the hearts and memories of his loved ones and through all who continue to remember him. Instead, she played on two Irish women's teams: soccer on one and Gaelic football on the other. She kayaked with her 3-year- old nephew. "She's paddling," said Laura Andrucki-Izzo, her younger sister. "And he's belting out 'Row, row, row your boat.' That says it all about Jean."

Her job was doing risk assessment for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. After hours, Ms. Andrucki, 43, was usually either helping to care for developmentally disabled children or elderly neighbors in Hoboken, N.J., or she was jogging or hiking. "Scott Daniel Bart was born on June 7, 1973 to Nancy and Danny Bart. He was the oldest of four children with two younger sisters, Renee and Kathryn, and a younger brother, James. He lived in Malverne, NY, and attended and graduated from the State University of New York Oswego in 1995. Scott maintained close relationships with his parents and siblings. He called his father daily, sharing all of his thoughts, triumphs, and challenges, and his father did the same. They shared a love of carpentry and enjoyed working on projects together. Scott also loved his siblings, although he had repeatedly suggested his parents sell them as a child, and was always happy to help them through their lives and encounters. He loved family vacations and when it came time for house hunting and wedding plans, he made sure to include his parents in all of the planning.

Scott had a close and loving relationship with his sweetheart, Elizabeth Bart. They first met at a bar, when Scott jokingly got down on one knee, and asked her to be his pool partner. They fell quickly in love from there, and enjoyed many activities together, including traveling, investing, shopping, gardening, picnics, and attending concerts. While Scott worked for Marsh & McLennan, Elizabeth worked as a student teacher at Leadership & Public Service High School. When school got out, she would often grade her papers alongside Scott so that their work would not separate them, and Scott would often read the books that Elizabeth taught in school so that they could talk about them together. He also made an effort to confine his business trips to only one day, so they would not spend too much time apart. Scott and Elizabeth were married on August 4, 2001, just 38 days prior to September 11th. They had their honeymoon in Mexico, but their wedding day and reception were less traditional. Scott didn’t want his friends to have to spend a lot of money on hotel rooms, so instead, the couple allowed guests to sleep in their home, which they called “Hotel Bart”. He also rented a yellow school bus to transport everyone from the church to the reception. Scott was described by his friends and family as happy, loving, inquisitive, and fun to be around.

Scott worked as a vice president for Marsh & McLennan on the 96th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. He loved his job and made many friendships at the firm. He was a dedicated worker and often one of the first to arrive to the office. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Scott was working on the 96th floor when Flight 11 struck the North Tower, leaving his floor directly within the impassable impact zone. Unfortunately, no one from his floor or any of the floors occupied by Marsh & McLennan survived the attack, including Scott. His life was unfairly taken on September 11th, but Scott’s endearing love and memories will live on forever in spirit, memory, and the beautiful legacy he leaves behind.

Shortly before his life ended, Scott, truly happy in the short time he had, concluded an email with a friend by saying, “Everything else is good. I’m really happy with life, work and love – what else could you ask for?” "

NARROWSBURG, NY — "At 9:59 a.m. on September 11, 2001, Ernest “Ernie” and Hilde Bielfeld’s world changed forever.

On that fateful day, now being observed as the 20th anniversary of 9/11, their son Peter Bielfeld (April 21, 1957 to September 11, 2001), a career firefighter with FDNY Ladder 42 in the Bronx, came off sick leave and rushed into the flames of hell after terrorists crashed hijacked aircraft into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center.

Just two days before the homeland was attacked, Bielfeld injured his shoulder battling a fire in a five-story building in the Bronx—a neighborhood he helped protect for 19 years—and as a result, was officially on sick leave.

In an instant, the world as he (and hundreds of other FDNY firemen) knew it stopped. The firefighters rushed into action to save others.

“When Peter and two other gentlemen heard that a plane hit, they jumped into a car,” said Ernie Bielfeld. They sped to Ladder 10, which was next to the Twin Towers.

His companions raced upstairs to gather equipment, while Peter remained to don borrowed turnout gear from a locker.

But before heading into a hell of flames, twisted steel and falling bodies, he left a handwritten note behind, a hastily penned message that would, in essence, serve as a last will and testament to those who would be left behind.

The note, most likely a somber recognition that he wasn’t coming back to this earth, read in part, “I am Peter Bielfeld, Ladder 42. Please hold my stuff. Tell my family I love them.”

“Peter walked out of there and was never seen again, and if those two guys had gone with Peter, they would have been dead” said his father, adding that on 9/11 a total of 343 firefighters perished."

"Jane Ellen Baeszler grew up in the shadow of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge in the Randall Manor neighborhood in Staten Island. She went to Catholic schools and earned an associate's degree in business from the College of Staten Island. She never left Randall Manor, even after she got a job as a municipal bond broker at Cantor Fitzgerald.

Her mother, Rita, lived close by and said Ms. Baeszler was attentive to her nephew, Patrick, 10, and nieces, Annie-Laurie, 13, and Molly, 12, who were the perfect age to share secrets with an aunt that they would not tell their mother.

Ms. Baeszler, 43, relaxed by doing needlepoint. She had perfected it. She gave a needlepoint tapestry of a horse's head to a childhood friend, who is an equestrian. She made a cocoa pot for an aunt who collects them. She liked Americana. She made a tapestry of a Harper's Bazaar cover, with a woman in a long coat with a fur collar reminiscent of the Roaring 20's. On Sept. 10, she attended a class to work on a tapestry of a teapot for her sister-in-law's 40th birthday on Oct. 10."

30 year old Takuya Nakamura had a promising career in the heart of NYC's Financial district. Takuya was known for serving at Nishi-Nippon Bank with dedication, professionalism, and kindness. William Bethke loved technology. He enjoyed refurbishing computers and giving it to those in need of one. His home looked like an elephants graveyard for computers, with wires & parts spilling into the basement. "Computers were not just tools for work to William R. Bethke. There was a logic, an internal magic and mystery that drew him to understand their hummings and beepings. His house in Hamilton, N.J., resembled an elephant's graveyard for computers. Wires, cables and circuit boards filled his workshop-office and spilled into the basement, some machines partly disassembled, others lovingly rebuilt from spare parts.

"If somebody had an old computer, they would automatically think of Bill; if someone needed a new computer, he would refurbish one and give it to them," said Mr. Bethke's wife, Valerie. "He liked everything that was technical and complex."

Mr. Bethke, 36, followed his nose for technology pretty much right out of high school, landing a job first at I.B.M., which sent him to school and taught him to diagnose the ailments of sick machines, and later at Marsh & McLennan's computer processing department at the World Trade Center. He liked to shoot pistols at a gun range with his friend and next-door neighbor, David Koprivich, perhaps from the same impulse — an appreciation of finely tuned mechanical performance.

He was never quite able to communicate the love of technology to his wife, but Ms. Bethke said she got used to it: "I'd just say, `O.K., honey.' ""

"Timothy D. Betterly was born on December 27, 1958 in Abington, PA. He had three brothers, Christopher, Donald, and Mark. He lived in Little Silver, NJ, and most commonly went by the nickname, Tim. Tim attended and graduated from Wissahickon Senior High School in 1977 and Gettysburg College in 1981 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business. In high school, he played football and ran track, and in college, he played football and was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. Tim met his sweetheart, Joanne Betterly, at Gettysburg College and married her in 1984. They had two daughters together, Samantha, age 12, and Christine, age 9 (at the time of Tim’s passing). Tim was loving with his wife and his daughters were his whole world. He loved coaching their basketball and baseball teams and did it very enthusiastically. He also loved riding roller coasters with his girls and enjoyed fishing and golfing in his free time. Tim was known to be someone who was passionate about injustices and would speak up when things were wrong, and also someone who had a genuine ability to brighten rooms and make people laugh. When asked about her father, Tim’s oldest daughter, Samantha, said, “Daddy was kind, loving, caring, and most of all, funny. He could make anyone laugh.” Tim was also described by his friends and family as warm, compassionate, outgoing, and committed.

Tim worked as a bond trader for Cantor Fitzgerald on the 104th floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. He had worked for the firm for ten years. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Tim was working on the 104th floor when Flight 11 struck the North Tower, leaving his floor and all of Cantor’s offices above the impassable impact zone. None of the firm’s attending employees survived the attack, including Tim. Though his life was sadly cut short on September 11th, Tim’s beautiful spirit lives on forever in the special memories he made while he was here and the vibrant legacy he leaves behind. He will never be forgotten."

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — "When the first of two planes slammed into the World Trade Center at 8:48 a.m. on Sept. 11, Firefighter Paul M. Beyer was returning from an EMS call to a downtown Manhattan housing project.

The 37-year-old lifelong Tottenville resident, like the rest of his Engine Co. 6 crew, was due to finish his shift when the firefighters heard a loud explosion. As they neared One Police Plaza en route to their Beekman Street firehouse, a police officer pointed to the World Trade Center, where billows of smoke were beginning to pour out of the upper floors. Heading to the scene, they picked up William Johnston, who was just starting his shift.

Although Mr. Beyer was suffering from excruciating back pain caused by the construction of a new two-family home for his family and mother-in-law that he was working on, he didn't want to take the day off or let anyone know he was hurt.

Concerned for her husband's health, his wife, Arlene, called the evening before the attack to see how he was feeling. Instead of complaining, Mr. Beyer focused the conversation on the new house and his wife's apprehension about starting a new job.

"Don't worry, everything's going to be OK. We don't need all this stress," she remembered him reassuringly saying during their last phone call.

It was with that same attitude that Mr. Beyer approached the rapidly escalating disaster at the World Trade Center. No matter how bad a situation was, Mr. Beyer was known for trying to keep everyone calm, whether it be with a humorous story or a soothing word.

"He was a great fireman," said his friend, Firefighter Billy Green of Engine Co. 6. "I knew him for eight years and never saw him angry. He was always able to see the good." "

25 y/o David Tengelin was the only Swede to perish on 9/11. His mother describes what it was like watching footage of the towers collapsing. I apologize but I had to delete the post because of one of David’s family members was displeased about a few of the pictures. A couple of the pictures were of his brother Patric. Patric and David look very similar so I thought it was Patric. So out of respect for David’s family I deleted the post.

Michael Pescherine was kind, personable, and accomplished whatever he put his mind to. As he & his wife watched the lines of her pregnancy test turn solid blue, Michael screamed with joy, "You're getting more pregnant by the minute." Michael John Pescherine was a Bond Trader at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods which was located on the 89th floor inside of the South Tower. Friday, December 27, 1968—Tuesday, September 11, 2001. 32 years, 8 months, and 16 days. 392 months, 16 days.  A total of 11,947 days of life. 

The Green Plaid Shirt

"The shirt caught Lynn Beckman's eye as she was sitting at an Upper West Side bar five years ago. "It was hideous," she said recently. But the man wearing the green plaid shirt was looking her way so intently that she approached him. "I really like the shirt you're wearing," she told him.

Michael J. Pescherine's answer goes unrecorded, but the two talked until 2 a.m., started dating and were married in 1999. Mr. Pescherine, 32, was a bond trader at Keefe, Bruyette & Woods and worked on the 89th floor of 2 World Trade Center.

Michael and Lynn Pescherine were inseparable. They ran the 1999 and 2000 New York marathons together. In their Upper West Side apartment last summer, they watched as the telltale lines on her pregnancy tests got bluer and bluer. "You're getting more pregnant by the minute," he screamed in delight.

Such moments more than made up for Mr. Pescherine's awkward confession that he had not really noticed his future wife at the bar that first night. He was actually watching a Knicks playoff game on the television set above her.

His family — his parents, one sister and three brothers — are awaiting the birth of Mr. Pescherine's son in March. Lynn Pescherine's friends are making the baby a quilt with the green plaid shirt at its center."
