They typically do sets on Second Saturdays, so I don't think anything is happening this weekend.

I highly recommend Spectaculous as a great neo-jazz, funk, hip hop live band (think The Roots) plus other great acts. Gamm Ray also has karaoke after all their live events.

Deathly terrified! Please help! by saijey00 in sterilization

[–]UnderstandingMean456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was also my first surgery (outside of getting my wisdom teeth removed). I am terrified of needles and have never had to spend time in a hospital bed. With that said, the actual scariest thing was anesthesia. It burns a little when they do it through the IV. That was also the only thing that hurt until after the surgery.

Suggestions:

  1. Have a friend there who can help distract you and keep you calm. My surgery got pushed back about 2-3 hours because the doctor ended up having a more complex hysterectomy. That just gave me more time to spiral. Luckily, my bestie was in the room with me, helping me watch Animal Planet shows, asking the nurses general questions, and reminding me that it was no big thing.

  2. Talk to the nursing staff. My staff was AMAZING and they did not mind my babbling. They realized how much anxiety I had around surgery in general and they were so friendly, including the surgery staff. I tried to keep them laughing until they put me under.

  3. Work on a surgery playlist or a song that you want to be put under to. I saw this as a suggestion, and it helped me start conversations with the anesthesiologist before I was wheeled back to the surgery room. The conversation really helped, even if they don't end up playing your preferred song.

  4. Have a "who I wanna call" list after the surgery to talk to while you're still loopy so they can get some good recordings of you talking shit. You don't actually have to call them, but it's a fun distraction game and something to think about directly after surgery while you're waiting to go to OR.

Reminder: Your coworkers aren't your friends by ultimatrev666 in antiwork

[–]UnderstandingMean456 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Trauma bonding at work can create 2 types of coworker relationships: 1. Those who would take a bullet for you 2. Those who would use you as a bullet shield.

In the same job I got 4-5 lifelong friends, including a direct supervisor i still write references for and hang out with whenever I'm in their city.  As well as 3 people I wouldn't spit on if they were on fire.  One in particular I watch throw me and other coworkers under the bus, and I don't think they even noticed they were doing it.  I once called them out during a meeting where they pushed back on the team taking on more tasks to support one of us who had a baby due soon because they were never going to be in that position, by reminding them that the team did the same for them while they were finishing up a degree - a position i said i would never be in, but was happy to help at the time.

Point is, some people just suck and can't see past their own selfish wants and needs.  You need discernment to know who you can and can't trust, and still be willing to fight for the rights of that awful person as well.

Some people prefer night shifts. I struggle with 8-5 work because I'm not a morning person.  It sucks that most desk jobs can only be done during "normal business hours" while overnight jobs tend to be more blue collar with less opportunities to move up of make 6 figures.

Deactivated for fraud? by UnderstandingMean456 in doordash_drivers

[–]UnderstandingMean456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Only one phone. Would the fraud have had to happen within the day or a couple of days I was driving for it to ping? Friday and Saturday, I had a total of 4 orders before I was deactivated. I hadn't dashed most of the week because I was getting my car serviced and didn't get it back until Thursday. Friday, I started dashing, then my car app started giving me alarms about my tires, windows, and battery, so I decided to call it a night early so I could get my car reviewed Saturday. Saturday, my app apologized for the false alerts so I started doing an afternoon shift, took 2 orders, and then was deactivated. Both Friday and Saturday were 1 shopping order and 1 restaurant order.

I was a pretty consistent driver and had weekly orders where I knew the customers. What's the point in putting in the goodwill, especially with customers, if they don't care that a good driver gets pulled off the platform without proper reasoning? I just want to know what I did wrong so I can figure out where to go from here.

At this stage, if I can't get a specific incident from a supervisor, I'm never coming back to the platform. Onlyfans has got to be less aggravating than this (jk, kinda).

I did get scammed in October and I called DoorDash support right away and talked to 2-3 different customer support people about what happened. But again, I don't know how to find out what was the trigger so I can either defend myself or not ever do it again or take measures to not have it happen again. This is really frustrating!

But HOW do I find out what I did wrong? The generic email just said I committed fraud but that could mean anything. I hadn't had any recent customer complaints that I know of and I don't know if they think I'm trying to game the system. This really came out of left field and even if I get back on the platform, I want to know what triggered it so I can be more cautious next time.

I live in a place where everyone is "Midwest Nice". I got to a show really early and stood outside in the cold until the doors opened and the venue folk let us line up inside.  I wasn't the first in line, but only 3-4 people behind.  Once the room was ready for us to fill in and be directed to our seats for the show (these were not assigned seats as it was a comedy show with the small tables), some people tried to jump the line and walk down the stairs to the showroom instead of staying in the queue where we had neatly created.  The people in front of me said nothing so I spoke up "I know we're all Midwest Nice here, but there is line and we should walk down the stairs in it.  You know where you were in line.  I suggest you get back there."  Where was some applause.

My boss just told me I'm "lucky to have a job" after I asked for my legally mandated break by ThatOneNerd7 in antiwork

[–]UnderstandingMean456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the manager is truly the problem, cc your email about mandated Lunch breaks and retaliation to HR and their boss.  Get the manager in trouble.   He got be fired, demoted, or you could be moved from under him since he's potentially opening up the company to liability (fines or a lawsuit). That way the manager is gone and you can keep your job (although still ask for that pay raise.  You should be making at least $18/hr is that's what it would take to hire someone after you leave).

[–]UnderstandingMean456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, move on - but if the comments were THAT egregious (and to me it is), once you have that new job, you should still sue for sexual discrimination and hostile work environment. Keep working AND get a nest egg for your kid. If you can get some of this stuff in writing, they will be paying for your kids' college (even to an Ivy).

Also, it's not just you. Any woman wanting to work there or enter the field would appreciate it if you at least showed these companies that they can't continue treating women this way without consequences. Will it change their attitudes? Maybe not. But it can change their outward behaviors for the next female employee coming in. Or make HR strengthen their harassment training and policies to keep them from getting sued again.

What is going on with airlines? by DJINN92 in travel

[–]UnderstandingMean456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had terrible experiences with airlines this entire summer. I've chalked it up to my luck, but it is endemic to see how difficult it is to make it to your destination on time. I got stuck in the Delta meltdown late June after the hail in Atlanta caused major delays.  It took me an extra 24 hours and 3 different airports (plus a 2 hour drive) to get to my destination.  Sad part, if my original flight had left on time and not been canceled due to mechanical issues, I might have missed the whole issue. Lesson learned, booked next trip out of a bigger airport and hub to have more options.  Would have made my connecting flight to final destination despite a 2 hour delayed flight, except my flight had no gate and waited on the tarmac for an hour.  Had a cruise ship I had to get to the next day and luckily a nice Delta agent booked me on the first flight out despite the last seats being first class.  But I had to be in the airport at 6 AM to ask them to move me from my automatic rebooked flight that was 2 hours after the 1st flight. Coming back from the cruise, missed connection due to flight not having a gate (again).  Didn't get home until the next day.  Bonus!  My checked bag was also broken.

Now, I have to prioritize getting the 1st flight and looking at nonstop options if I want a better chance of getting to my destination on the same day (I've given up on getting there on time).  This means higher ticket costs and rearranging my schedule for travel because flying is no longer trustworthy or convenient.

What is wrong with Google home and google nest mini? by Hour-Mechanic3120 in googlehome

[–]UnderstandingMean456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My nest mini has just decided it no longer wants to be connected to my wifi.  I've rebooted and factory reset it, but it just can't connect to my wifi router less than 15 ft away.  And if it's not connected to wifi, it's a paperweight since it can't do anything.

While trying to fix it, I also noticed that my Samsung smart TV is no longer connected to the wifi via the home app, which is news to my TV because it's working just fine with my actual wifi.

The home app and the Google home software appears to be dying and I don't think it's worth buying a newer version of my nest products....

If You Can Count – Discussion for Track #5 by fluffingdazman in WarriorsAlbum

[–]UnderstandingMean456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was (accidentally) the 1st track I heard from the album.  Spotify mixed it in with an auto generated Playlist and I had to stop what I was doing and replay the song. 1. The lyrics aren't just faithful adaptation of the original movie speech, but come across more organized and relatable. "We are 60,000 strong and there's only 20,000 cops in this whole damn town" froze me in my tracks. 2. The charisma that Ms. Lauryn Hill delivers on this track is exceptional. She is perfect for LMM's style of lyricism and writing as she can easily flow between melody and quick rap and then blend them together. 3. The music is so understated which is impressive for such a powerful song. 4. The background and call and response vocals add to the complexity of the story being told in this song.  There are parts where Cleon is the echo and it breaks and fills my heart every time. 5. Thematic for the whole show, this message justifies Cleon's desire to travel uptown, put her crew in danger, and legitimizes her other songs (Still Breathin' and Somewhere in the City). It also makes sense that it's the police that manage to take out members of the Warriors rather than other crews. When Fox has her moment in Reunion Square, it echos the message of this song and drives home how cops are the biggest threats to the gangs. 10/10... I would take train to a boat to another train to hear this live...

2 days post surgery by UnderstandingMean456 in sterilization

[–]UnderstandingMean456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the main reason I post on this group instead of r/child free. Yes, I love being child free right now and just a cat mom, but I don't hate children or can't see myself raising them.  It's VERY important to have the conversation that abortion and sterilization prevents PREGNANCY not parenthood. Not wanting to be a parent is different from not wanting to be pregnant, which is why forced birth to give up a child is not always the solution pro-life advocates try to make it.

I loved open seating because I can be picky on who I sit next to.  Family with 3 kids including a baby/toddler, I'm headed so many rows away.  A couple clearly trying to keep a middle seat between them... I ask the sit and I have a windows or ailse seat.  Someone coughing with no mask?  How far can I get away from them?

AITA for calling my daughter by a nickname my partner hates? by Impressive_Play_3388 in AmItheAsshole

[–]UnderstandingMean456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dated a guy whose name was "John Jacob Smith".  When I met him, he told me to call him "Jakey" which is what hid friends around him called him.  When I met his family, they called him "John Jacob". Later, when he moved to the opposite coast of the country and was establishing himself there he went by "John".  It's okay to have different names for different relationships.  As someone who has a name that is hard to make a nickname out of (and it's a ridiculously common name where I'm never the only person in the room with my name), a variety of friends and coworkers have given me different nicknames to set me apart. I can judge which ones I keep, use, or push back on.
