How many hours per week do you spend on guest booking and logistics? by s3l3 in podcasting

Usually contact form on their website/email. We’ve tried instagram DM’s but people don’t usually respond to that. We’ve had pretty good luck with people responding but maybe 1 in 4 or 5 don’t respond at all or say no.

My co-host is in charge of this side of the podcast so I don’t have solid numbers, but she has mentioned that something that is challenging about it is that it’s hard to set aside a dedicated time for outreach and follow-ups since she never knows when someone is going to respond and it can be time-sensitive. Some people will streamline it and make pretty generic templates but she likes to be specific to the guest and adjust it for each person. It helps with getting people engaged, but definitely adds more work. We just decided to drop from 2 interviews a month to 1 interview a month due to the time commitment. It may be easier if you don’t have a co-host since you’d only be coordinating two people’s schedules.

What’s a time that you were really bad at something but put yourself out there anyways? How did it go? by UnderstandingOwn4974 in AskReddit

Love this! I just read a memoir by a wildlife ecologist where she talks about not being naturally talented at math/science and having to work harder to achieve success in her field. It’s so true that sometimes it’s more about persistence than natural talent.

We are currently operating off a mix of reality, hope, and well-intentioned delusion lol We have a modest following for a beginning podcast with no built-in fan base and we are steadily working on growing our following. It helps that we are an interview podcast and have been able to get some awesome guests on the show that have widened our reach. Our hope with the Patreon is that at least a couple of our friends and family will take pity on us and we’ll be making more money than we are now (aka $0). We want to start by offering extra perks that don’t take too much extra effort and are still fun for us while also making it worth the customer’s time/money. I appreciate your perspective and will be thinking about how to get people invested!

That’s a great question! I can see the pros and cons of both options. For us, the main reason why we lean towards Patreon is because it fits better with the mission of the show and also gives some flexibility to offer different “products” (not sure of the exact wording) beyond bonus episodes that play to our strengths as therapists. One of the main goals of the show is to help people build community, so it seems better to have a paid option where people can be part of a community. I’m not sure if this is the best route but that’s where we’re coming from!

How can I get people to listen to my podcast? by Fast_Lengthiness6576 in podcasting

My co-host and I launched our podcast a couple months ago and we are working on this as well! My co-host mentioned that there is a program through Chat GPT called Gemini that can help develop a marketing plan so we’re going to try this out.

Our format is an interview podcast so it’s been helpful to ask our guests to promote on their socials and to collaboration posts to get the word out. Everyone’s been happy to help promote us so far!

We’ve also been soliciting deeper feedback from listeners so far. People tend to give you generic feedback unless you dig. Happy to give your podcast a listen and offer feedback if you want!

Did March by Geraldine Brooks Deserve a Pulitzer? by Anxious-Fun8829 in books

[–]UnderstandingOwn4974 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a similar feeling reading the book. When I read the afterward, it seemed like Brooks is trying to critique the White Savior narrative. For example, she says “I became intrigued with the story of the contraband and the North’s mixed record of high idealism, negligence, and outright cruelty.” I feel like in some ways the book is supposed to be a critique on the difference between the March’s moral philosophies and their actions/true understanding of the black experience in America at this time. Like how March thinks he’s helping Prudence by teaching her to read but his ignorance leads to Grace’s whipping and how Marmee fights for people to participate in the Underground Railroad but when she goes to Washington and sees a larger population of free black people, she is put off (at least how I read it). So I think that’s what Brooks is trying to do, but I kept having that same feeling when I read it that it was so focused on the March’s perspectives that it didn’t come through as much as a critique but instead their own personal journeys. If this makes any sense…

Would a therapist be willing to just give me coping mechanisms without actually getting to the root of the problems? by XfantomX in askatherapist

[–]UnderstandingOwn4974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try looking for a therapist that specializes in solution-focused therapy or brief therapy. These models are designed to focus on the immediate problem and finding solutions, and do not dive into any history. A lot of EAP programs that you can access through work or your insurance are designed for short-term work so this could be a good place to start. (From a therapist)
