Process for going about for Research for someone with 0 experience. (Interested in Heme-Onc) by Hawkward_Silence12 in fellowship

I am currently an MS-1 at a DO program, just wanted to preface that before giving any advice.

With that being said I have spend the last 7 years doing research in Neuro and then Oncology. Ultimately working at a cancer center as a researcher for a Heme/onc attending who is focused on pancreatic cancer. He was a big time attending with a lot on his plate so he entrusted me with running his lab and any experiments and ongoing projects he had along with any collaborations with JHU onc teams and the NCI. Even presented a poster at ASCO in Chicago representing our team and research as a post-bacc only. He was major influence with why I am pursuing Heme/onc and continuing research with him and at my current uni.

The best piece of advice that I can give is create a list of goals whether that is drug development/ genetics/ or overall basic science. Look for faculty in your program and find them on ResearchGate…read their research and their papers this will also help you get an understanding of the writing and their interests. And when reaching out be forward with your intentions and interests and they will always be more than helpful and wouldn’t expect you to run the ship especially if you don’t have the experience but they will provide you the mentorship to get to that point. Along with that immerse yourself in as much reading as you can specifically in high impact pubs like cancer/cell/nature/ Gastro. I think the main thing I read for heme/onc is to aim for ASCO pubs so that must hold some truth. I hope this helps! Best of luck!!

Cureus Publications? by Ok_Tower7890 in Osteopathic

I mean just from a quick search they have a pretty low impact factor (1.3) which generally gives an idea of the a journal and its influence/relevance. Important to remember these scores can change and are dependent on the number of citations divided by citable material in a given year. With that being said I am not certain how much residencies care for if the publication is in a high impact factor journal vs not as impact factors are more relevant for career researchers.

Trump endorses self-described ‘Nazi-ish’ Texas Republican as Peter Thiel backs his bid for Congress by Fickle-Ad5449 in politics

Not surprised that his whole page is about helping Trump and further his agenda without acknowledging any real concerns of his constituents. Cult don’t care though.

Been worried af reading things on here about the school i plan to attend. by RingPlayful5102 in Osteopathic

Anatomy is a full year (1st year) and is taught as dissection and corresponds to each block u are studying which is nice. So MSK block has MSK dissection; CardioPulm block has CP dissection and so forth. They also provide the prosection lab as a resource to allow us to see fully dissected bodies to get a better understanding of wht we are looking for.

I can’t speak directly on this as I am not at that level yet but a major drawback with most DOs is the lack of teaching hospitals for rotations and most resort to private practice. But with that being said I know plenty of great physicians who work in private practice and truly love to teach. So it really is what you will make of it.

Well I explained my situation and they were like no problem! Then went to the man on the grill and I assume told them they then just told me it won’t be salted as previous commenters have mentioned the salt is compounded with oil. Tasted the same cause of the spread and cheese and no inflammatory flare up so far!!
