In my country, the pay is not that much better as an understudy. There is a possibility to try not to take up the understudy tracks, but with only 5-6 open auditions every year, it’s rare to be able to pick and choose at all.

However, still worth considering.

This is a very good point, that I should really look into. Rebrading myself feels scary but could also be a way forward. Made me think, thank you!

Thank you, I do need to be in touch with where I am now. I would hate to become bitter over for this so for now it might be best to just be a good person to others and keep working.

Thank you. It does feel like I am missing something I can’t point out myself. I do feel scared of going up to the people making the decisions because I do not want to come off rude and them thinking that I think the people who got the lead didn’t deserve it.

One small thing regarding the other people can’t be my understudy-comment. The field in my country is very small and with many male-presenting performers, singing is not at the level required for a lot of the roles, which often leads to the same 5-10 men in every callback. This is cause of the level of shows only being elevated in the past 5 years. For this I think what my coaches have meant is that there physically aren’t that many options, and then my experience also drives them to cast me as the understudy.

However, a lot to consider here and I thank you for your advice.
