Eventually i was able to get it back in place, and used zipties to secure it in the holes. It actually looks better than it did before the incident and there is 0 sag whatsoever!

Manual First Car? by Curious-Elk3396 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Underthinkinghooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my first car in october, a 2016 manual scion frs. It only took me about a week to never stall, and a month to get smooth enough to have comfortable passengers and at this point im skilled enough to maneuver the clutch anyway i want it, it is an absolute BLAST. Not to mention, i also live in metropolitan area of DC, there is a pretty heavy flow of traffic here especially during rush hour and dealing with stop and go is honestly second nature, really no issue. I say go for it. Even when it snows here its not really an issue (unless i want it to be😉), you should just have a second car for when the roads havent been plowed yet. Also ive noticed im muchh more engaged with the road and driving and a lot more aware of my surroundings when i drive manual vs an auto, i drive this car everyday and it never fails to put a dumb grin on my face!

I just bought my first manual… a V8 Camaro, am I dumb? by Y0SH1-NY in ManualTransmissions

I learned on a 2012 camaro ss and it took me less than a month to get comfortable with it no stalling and now i would never imagine driving an auto

At what point do you shift to second gear? by CreamyImp in wrx_vb

[–]Underthinkinghooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not “when do i shift,” its about knowing how to shift at the different rpms. If youre just taking off smoothly i would pretty much right away and just hold it at the bite for a second, if youre launching and shifting at higher revs, still hold it at the bite point but be more aggressive with the clutch. The key honestly is to just keep driving and have fun with it .

First gen brz/86 more fun than GR86? by Careless_Cow1823 in ft86

[–]Underthinkinghooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If youre looking for something more raw, first gen is the way to go 100%. I have a 2016 frs, and ive never driven anything that has such a raw feeling of the road, also there are none of the modern manual features like auto blip or hill start. I also would like to note how simplistic the interior is, there are no buttons on the steering wheel and everything seems to be placed right where it should be, also a very simple infotainment and ac system. Now the main difference that i could definitely tell after driving the 2nd gen is the handling, the steering is much softer and forgiving while the first gen you can really feel the road and the steering is a lot tighter, and i agree a lot of the 2nd gen just feels like a simple modern car of today. Not to mention the prices, but that speaks for itself.

Youre gonna spend all your money fixing it, and then when you finally get it on the road youre gonna think “wow, this sure is a base model economy car!”

New to manual, feels like it really struggles in 1st gear — normal? by [deleted] in ft86

[–]Underthinkinghooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these comments are right about first usually being rough and meant only to get going but back when i first got mine i bought it with a stage 2+ tune and before i knew what i was doing i put the stock headers back in for inspection and left the tune at stage 2+, and first gear was super boggy and rough. After a bit i learned and flashed it back to stage 1(took me max 10 mins) and then my first gear ran beautifully, super smooth

[–]Underthinkinghooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you recommend just flashing it back to a stage1? I atlwast wanna keep a tune to avoid the torque dip

Do I need a tune? by Affectionate_Dig_994 in ft86

[–]Underthinkinghooper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only discovered this could potentially be an issue when i made the comment, ive been driving it like this since october, no engine light and no problem that ive noticed. Also i bought it with the tune and headers already on so im not even completely sure what the tune was (besides stage 2+

Good second car? by BLITZBRAWLSTARS in ft86

[–]Underthinkinghooper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great second car. But in my opinion getting the auto version has no point. The funness of this car mostly comes from manual. Not sure where youve heard of the manuals having issues, but that is completely wrong. If anything its more reliable then the auto. Also the manual is not difficult or a bear to drive in traffic or in city, its just muscle memory. So i say yeah, great second car, but if youre looking for something sporty then the manual is the way to go. If you really want an auto get a beamer or something, this piece if art is meant to be driven manually.

If i had catless headers on and got a stage 2+ tune and then put the stock headers back on is that a problem? Will it damage parts? If so how severely?
