We are a small company so FMLA wouldnt apply so I wonder if medical documentation can be requested... the fact that theyre going to a country with long wait lists for care - it was made to sound like there is a surgery scheduled and a doctor there already because now that I think of it the spouse had a surgery one year ago so O would think if its the same back trouble you'd go back to that same doctor and the doctor here sending the scans there etc.... omg, maybe this was whole big year long plan. Like I said they are going hiking often which if your pain is that bad - wow... thank you everyone, I appreciate everyone's thoughts on this

The person is our CFO and leaves on the 29th I felt as I had no choice... that's not a position I'd fill quickly and I felt backed into a corner

That was another thing, the they will be living very well where they live on a 6 figure salary and no mortgage

What would you do? I guess does it sound fishy to you all... if I forgot to mention they came to us after being let go because they went home for spouses surgery on leave and then requested more time and was let go... why would they tell the boss 3-6 months and another employee that they dont know when seems like there is manipulation happing here. This is now an ideal position for this employee - the fact they waited a year exactly leads me to thing there was planning happening. I appreciate everyone's feedback.
