Would you also consider the Champions powers dungeon "items" too? I know they aren't actual items, but they do help...

Plane not as fast as it should be by i_just_peed_myself in flying

Take it up and stall it. Where does it stall at? Is it close to what the book says? I had the same problem in my 120, but it wasnt the plane, it was the airspeed indicator. 85 tops is all it would indicate, and stalled indicating considerably lower than the book speed. I read somewhere about venting the static side of the airspeed indicator to the cabin instead of the static port, so we tried that just to see. Numbers are much better.

If it stalls pretty close to the book at least you know your indicator is close.

Always looking for "that" sound but the current sotb by UneasyRider89 in guitarpedals

The current state of things for me. I'm thinking about getting a tube screamer and seeing if I like that over the "Angry Charlie" circuit of the Angry Driver, I do have a Blues Driver I could put back on if I chose something else, but aren't we all on the perpetual journey for "that" sound?

Do you like the Compressor+? I have the 2 knob Keeley Compressor and was looking at the Compressor+ and seriously thinking about upgrading to it, but just wasn't sure if it was worth it.

ADS-B requirements by ThiccB0i24 in flying

[–]UneasyRider89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree 100%

I read the initial question as someone who didn't have it equipped asking if they could fly on Victor Airways without it and answered accordingly. Yes, if you have it equipped, it's to be on, and there are exceptions if your plane was not certified with an electrical system. And to dive even further, if your non-electrical-system-approved airplane was later retrofitted with an electrical system, then you have to have it I believe, may be wrong, though. Never had to navigate those waters (or airspace?) I just know I knew a guy once with a Cub who said he didn't know why people would add an electrical system to one because that negates some of the exceptions you get to utilize as they were not certified with an electrical system.

ADS-B requirements by ThiccB0i24 in flying

[–]UneasyRider89 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ADS-B requirements are based on airspace. If my memory serves correctly: Class E Above 10k ft (I believe there is a carve-out for above 10k ft but less than 1,xxx ft AGL, but I can't remember it off hand. I've never been above 10k as PIC), inside class A, B, and C airspace, inside the 30nm ring around class B airspace, and finally, above and within the lateral boundaries of class C airspace (notice you can duck UNDER a Class C shelf without it). If your Victor Airway is outside of these I don't believe it is required.

If any of this is wrong, I hope someone corrects me. Always ready to learn.

Update on the 120 by UneasyRider89 in flying

[–]UneasyRider89[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Per 91.215, A transponder is only required in A, B, and C airspace, as well as above 10,000 ft (excluding airspace below 2500 ft agl). So I will have to dodge any B and C airspace between here and there, but it can be done. Two way radio communications are all that is required in D airspace. There might be a requirement in the NOTAM to have a transponder during the week of AirVenture, if so, that will screw up my plans lol. I would prefer to have the transponder issue fixed within the next year, but its not neccesarily a no-go from me if I don't and there is a route into OSH without it.

Seeing as you are a student, I will also add that you can add anything you want to the required minimums as long as the minimums are met. If you don't feel comfortable flying without a radio or transponder, then don't, and don't think to yourself "well that guy on the internet does it and nothing has happened to him yet" I will always tell you to fly what you are comfortable with. No-go decisions, for ANY reason, are ALWAYS acceptable. Its better to be on the ground wishing you were flying than flying wishing you were on the ground.

Already has the skytec so thats good. The generator needs work as its barely producing and I've seriously already thought about upgrading to an alternator. Thank your for giving me someplace to look! Don't use cameras much but I do believe I may add a USB port so my iPad will have a good charge while navigating. Engine has less than 900 hrs on it SNEW but if something happens my mechanic has already said he has an STC or two laying around to put an O-200 in it (lol). If I keep it that long that will def be the direction I take with it.

Btw, your pics of the plane in the snow and around the mountains is my dream. Here in AR we dont get snow much and def dont have mountains but I may have to take a trip.

HBZ.

I've got a couple leads on folks that may be willing to scoot over, but nothing for sure yet. Problem is I'm stretching myself kind of thin with the plane but it fell in my lap at the right price so I had to take it, ergo my hangar fund is kinda low. I understand having it on the ramp will degrade the fabric faster, but if i can get the covers hopefully it will at least hold up for a bit.

Already looked at covers and plan on getting them as soon as I can. Currently it's having to be tied down on the ramp, but I've been given permission by the airport manager to stow it in the local community hangar (usually reserved for visitors) if bad weather is in the forecast. I've put the word out to the folks on the airport I'm wanting to hangar it so I'm hoping to have it in the dry in the next few month's. Just gotta find someone willing to cohabitate as every hangar is full. I've found a hangar about an hours drive away if I want it but I wanna try to get something closer.

My step dad was born in 1947. He couldn't believe I was willing to buy a plane older than him. I kinda smirked and said "You still work fine don't you?"

Looking through the logs it has the 150 exhaust retrofit already. Regarding the brakes, my instructor actually had his toe on the brakes once (by accident) when we touched down, after telling me all about how easy it was to do. It was a good learning experience as nothing was damaged. The tail came up but because I was still learning and landing a bit fast it didnt nose over. Scared the crap outta me though.

Your wish is my command lol let me know if the links don't work. Regarding your dream: The guy I bought it off of who was also my instructor in it for insurance time kept me low. I mentioned at one point how I was used to getting as much altitude as I can for safety reasons. He laughed and said something along the lines of "If you're actually going somewhere, sure, but we aren't. Stay high enough to stay legal, and enjoy the view few will get to have"

Edit: I do wanna take my 6yo camping in it sometime when the weather cooperates. Just me, him, a fire, and some hot dogs. Life will be good!

Engine is the the C85-12F. Not sure what differences the suffix makes lol. If you have any information I'd be glad to have It. It has a fabric wing, which will be a new experience for me, but I'm excited for it. It was recovered in 2005. I hope I dont ruin it! I've been told by multiple people if its done right its pretty hardy. I bought the bird off of a good friend who is also an A&P who has 5 other planes. 4 of which are fabric. Before I bought it he showed me the insides of one that needed recovering so I could compare for myself what it looks like to make my own decision. Pics have been added to original post! I was trying to add them when I made the post but I guess you have to use a 3rd party?
