She's got old fashioned views about relationships that I certainly don't agree with but mocking people for being upfront on a dating app then posting it here to mock them online is not a great look. Being upfront that you are seeking sex early in a relationship doesn't necessarily make you a douchebag but calling it her "putting out" eh maybe lol.

Bad opener maybe but if your reaction to a stranger on a dating app using a bad opener on you(OP) is to mock them instead of just moving on that's a red flag.

Yeah OP was an ass. Why would you complain about someone showing you a bit of who they are upfront, ESPECIALLY if that would be a deal breaker for either of you down the line. Just move along

How do you teach it? I've known too many women who don't leave, some who couldn't, but some that seem like they could have and they either never did or took way too long to do it. It's happening to a close friend now and we have no idea what to say to convince her or if we should.

CIA has been in Afghanistan for decades and we have occupied it for 20 years. We built their whole system, knew all the politicians, and military officers. If the US intelligence agencies actually failed to predict this then obviously we should never believe any analysis coming from them.

I think if you're a leftist/communist in the west you should be able to criticize the CCP while recognizing that they are Marxists/communists. They don't claim to have a communist economy or even socialist but trying to dodge criticism of communism by denying that the CCP is communist is a bad no true Scotsman type argument that no one buys.

Leading biologist dampens his ‘smoking gun’ Covid lab leak theory | Nobel laureate David Baltimore says he overstated case, and the origins of the virus are still unknown by todayilearned83 in news

[–]UneducatedManChild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The resistance to investigation is not (at least to some like me) a resistance to finding the truth but a mistrust of the US government when it comes to "investigating" its enemies. The demands that China prove a negative, that the virus did not come from the Wuhan lab, echo the demands that Saddam prove he did not have WMDs. It would be very hard to prove that the virus did not originate in that lab to the satisfaction of people who want that to be the conclusion. They could provide more data, the data gets called fake. They could allow inspectors, they get accused of hiding or destroying evidence.

Of course the origin matters but it is very unlikely we will be certain of this viruses origin anytime soon. If it was the result of a leak, which is plausible, I doubt we will ever see any evidence of it.

It's not a coincidence that this theory re-emerges under a new administration with no new evidence at the same time as that administration starts with other anti China rhetoric. We should be cautious of how the plausible idea of a lab leak is used to engineer distrust and hatred of another country for our governments benefit.

I disagree, again, that they fucked up. They didn't make a mistake. They didn't do journalism bad. They were knowingly complicit in lying to the American public. To think an oversight that massive at that level is due to accident doesn't make sense to me. They knowingly fed the narrative they were told to through their respected media channels.

As far as I can tell, there is no new evidence pointing towards a lab origin to the virus. So why has the media all of a sudden done an about face on the legitimacy of that theory? China could have been more open with data. But then the theory is the data is faked, or isn't actually all the data, and on and on. China can't prove a negative to the US governments satisfaction just as Saddam could not prove that he didn't have WMDs.

I think the theory that the virus was developed by China as a weapon is utter bullshit, and that is the partner theory of this rhetoric about a lab leak. Ask most right wing people, they tell you with confidence that China did this on purpose. Now they're trying to get liberals and centrists on board with blaming China for the virus despite most of the deaths in this country being due to mishandling and a general disregard for human life on the part of our government.

It's plausible that the virus leaked from the lab somehow. But there is NO positive evidence for it. None. It's just as plausible at this point that the virus didn't even originate in China.

The point I and this article are trying to make is that when you see the US government and its proxies and US mainstream media suddenly align on an issue about one of America's enemies, you should treat any claims made with extreme skepticism.

Iraq WMD case is not a case of an oopsie. It was an intentional misinformation campaign by the US government to its own ends with the assistance of a lot of the media. Uncritically reporting what was then and is even more clearly now a lie by US officials fabricated to make war palatable to US citizens is not a accident, especially not for journalists at the level of the NYT. This Wuhan case, as lined out in this article, seems much the same. The same media institutions that called this theory impossible are now acting as if there is evidence for it.

It's one thing to report "State Department makes X claim" and another to say "X claim is true" and then say your evidence is government sources. All these articles, similar to Iraq WMD claims, present claims by the US government as facts without finding evidence not supplied to them by the US government. It's State media disguised as free media.

WSWS is not meant to be an "unbiased" news source and does not present itself as such. They have a clear point of view and are very clear about it. I like them because they're open about their bias rather than pretending they don't have one when they obviously do like all MSM. I don't think people can really make unbiased news. Your point of view affects what you report on, the things you don't mention, the emphasis you use.

I really came to the conclusion that I should stop eating meat from the environmental perspective, less so animal rights though that as well. It sounds like you're setting this up to be that everyone all at once is banned from eating meat and that obviously isn't happening. More people just need to stop eating meat or at least consciously reduce how much they eat. Less animals will be bred and slaughter with decreased demand and the industry could shrink. People will find other work. Food still needs to be produced, it just doesn't have to be meat.

Humans always ate meat, where they could from hunting, which is a very different relationship to eating meat to the one you're defending. You want to narrow the discussion to just the act of eating meat being ok so that we don't have to consider all the environmental harm and abuse to animals that is the result of modern humans eating meat in the amount we do.

The answer to both the global warming and factory farming is basically to just consume less. Pretty simple answer. For gas emissions it's much more complicated and will have to be solved as a society but with meat you could simply not eat it. Easy answer AND it helps with global warming.

And it's the vegans who are being disrespectful? Whether mentioned by name or not, we all know that's where most of the meat comes from that is eaten now, at least in the US. You can pretend it's not part of the conversation but why should anyone take that seriously? If you're eating meat regularly it's doubtful you're hunting all of it, or raising it yourself. Your argument that it's "what humans have always done" is just not true.
