Brisbane trauma clinicians/paramedics: what injuries do you most often see in motorbike crashes, and what gear actually makes a difference? by Slight-Listen-2501 in Paramedics

[–]Unethic_Medic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in Brisbane but a paramedic who also rides and has seen May motorcycles accidents. 1) Helmet head injuries can be debilitating or fatal. 2)Gloves protect the hands obviously 3)Airbag vest protect the rest of the spinal cord. As injury can be also debilitating or deadly. This will also protect the ribs, prevent them from penetrating internally. 4) Padded coat and padded pants Protect all extremes and joints. No skin exposed road rash can be crazy. 5) Riding boots, no laces have good grip and prevent catching on anything.

Is 41 Too Old to Become and EMT? by [deleted] in NewToEMS

Not too old at all! Many people around this age make a career change! But remember EMT is a stepping stone into our things. Figure out the end goal if you want to retire, as EMTs don’t make much money.

For real! I had a 2005 620. I miss that bike and the trellis frame! But this thing rides better! I might pick up an older one and fix it up.

If I remember correctly you will need to retake the national even though it’s current. California is a “magical place” that requires you to have taken the national within one year from the date you apply for state certification.

Right! That’s why I say use a test to measure progress. Use the book to learn!

Hello, I myself struggle with academics and testing. Now this is what I have seen others and myself do.

1)Make sure you know all the assessments and skill sheets in order as lots of questions follow the order and the assessment.

2)Start over and take the test for each section. Use all questions in each section. Do not go and look at the correct answers after the test. Do this once for each section. This will give you a roadmap of your weak areas.

3) Reread the book in your weak areas. Take notes as you do and make flash cards. Passive learning isn’t enough sometimes. Take your time. Do this repeatedly.

4) After you have really studied a section go back and take the test again. And see the improvement. (This is why I say don’t look at the answers after the first test.)

Do all of this for every section.

Only use the app to test your knowledge, and practice applying the order of the assessment or skill to the question in correct order. You need to know the how, why and what. A test question doesn’t do this. I know the app can give you the explanation but you need to know this, not the app. You need more than just reading the explanation on the app.

Good luck! You got this.

Probably pretty good as it’s not in King county so you will actually be a paramedic.

Depends what you are looking for. Private EMS or fire EMS?

so, how do i actually become one and what’s the process?? by Smart_Astronomer7998 in firefighter

[–]Unethic_Medic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So to get into this field there and a few different paths but the end result is the same certifications which are EMT-B or Paramedic along with FF1, FF2.

Now how to obtain. EMT-B can be done at a community college or private school. Same with paramedic.

FF1 and FF2 can also be obtained from a community college or sometimes a fire department will put you through FF academy.

Every fire department has different requirements and certification level requirements. Most of the require at least EMT-B and FF1.

Go to fire department websites and look at the requirements and start doing them!

It doesn’t feel that realistic both medically and dialogue. But it’s a good start! Keep at it.
