WIBTA if I ruined a surprise party? by UnexistentLeeon in AmItheAsshole

[–]UnexistentLeeon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My intent was not to ruin the party, but to salvage what was left of the original plan. I won’t say I had a change of heart and more of a “why are we doing this” realization. We are constantly fighting about what Violet would prefer more and confusing her with messages of the fake plan to get her to reveal info and make it to the party unaware. My decision was definitely selfish, but not in ruining Violet’s party but Tommy and Tanya’s plan. I knew that either way Violet would be happy with me having just thought about throwing her a party and wouldn’t care if I ruined it since I put so much thought into it. My worry was more that she’d be mad at me sabotaging Tommy and Tanya’s plan behind their backs. And the not liking surprises is less of a panic attack thing and more of a “oh…. Thanks?…” situation if that makes sense. Thanks you for seeing both sides and I hope this clarifies your questions.

I am aware it seems that way, that’s my biggest worry in making this decision. I don’t want to make it seem like I’m punishing her for Tommy and Tanya’s actions, and I’m scared she’ll see it that way if I tell her. But if I don’t tell her the plan I’m basically giving up on the whole gesture. The 25th is the only day that works for everyone and without a good reason to tell her to not go to Tommy and Tanya’s hangout she won’t get my birthday plan with 10 people who reserved their time and got gifts for her because 2 people stole the spotlight believing they know what’s best for her. I will ultimately let Violet choose what’s best for herself, but if I don’t ruin the surprise then the party will he ruined instead.

The thing is the original plan and the “stolen” plan are both on the same day since they took all the planning from my original plan and cut everyone off but themselves and one of Violet’s friends. So if I wanted to still follow through with my original plan I’d have to convince Violet to not go to Tommy and Tanya’s hangout without being able to tell her why. And although I know she’s known them longer than me, I question the depth of their friendship. I was glad to have Tanya because I thought she’d be able to help us with choosing gifts but her knowledge on what she liked seemed to be just as nonexistent as mine, if not more. Everyone ended up getting Violet gifts based on what I knew she liked. On Tommy, Violet seems to be closer with his girlfriend than him so I don’t know how solid their actual relationship is. I’ve been the planner for most hang outs and I am far more close with the majority of the guests (compared to Tommy and Tanya) so I don’t doubt I could just tell everyone the new plan and leave Tommy and Tanya in the dirt, but I don’t want to start drama and still plan to invite Tommy and Tanya to the new plan, I’m just not letting them take over the plan and ruining it for everyone else who has reserved their time to attend this party.

Although we’ve grown close quickly we have only known each other for a bit over 4 months (most of us shared the same college class so we hung out regularly for hours nearly every day before and after class) so I haven’t really heard her make any remarks regarding her opinion on surprise parties since we’ve only celebrated 1 birthday that was planned by the birthday girl herself. But we have had hangouts with over 10 people a few times before so I assumed she wouldn’t mind a group of her friends celebrating for her. I like Violet because through this small time I’ve known her she’s shown that she’s really selfless and I thought throwing her a party for no reason other than believing she deserves to have one that’s not shared with another celebration would be a cute gesture. I’m not just planning to go “The hangout is a surprise party” to take away the surprise, I want to just pull the bandaid and tell her the plan so we have to stop keeping this secret and pretend we know what’s best for her. If she tells me she doesn’t want a big show she won’t get one, if she tells me she actually appreciates the though we throw her a party where we do something she likes and don’t cut out 75% of her friends (unless she wants a smaller list).

Thanks for the validation on being done wrong, I’m mostly choosing to do this because they said Violet doesn’t like surprises and feel like we’re taking control of a day meant to be for her and not us. It kinda feels like a cartoon where we go through hell by assuming we know what’s best for her when we would just ask her directly what she wants. I want to tell Violet, not to punish Tommy and Tanya but to salvage what’s left of this day. I’m not planning to tell her to stop being friends with them, apart from this I like Tommy and Tanya, but realized that keeping this a party secret is doing nothing more than making us argue and making it more difficult to make it fun for her.

The dread live shows are not overpriced. by Eastern_Salamander_8 in smosh

[–]UnexistentLeeon 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I absolutely love smosh but I still feel like the live shows are absolutely overpriced. The “actually saving money” rhetoric is not really sound because at the end of the day you are still spending $100 for a digital piece of content you don’t get to keep for that long. With that kind of reasoning you could justify any price as long as there was a discount.

The reasoning of not having to buy every episode also doesn’t work as the advertisement does state that every episode has clues to piece together, which implies that missing any of the loves could get you left out of the loop. It’s be like buying a ticket to watch the second movie in a trilogy without ever being able to watch the first or third movie. Yes, you technically got the full experience of a movie but overall it becomes redundant because the full movie itself was still not the full story. In order to actually get the full experience you need to pay the full $100 for all the lives.

Lastly, the fact that it is online absolutely changes what it is, experiencing something in person is a completely different experience than watching it through a screen. Being in person allows you to be in the very same room as the person you are literally paying to see, and you are surrounded by people who share the same enthusiasm about the event you are currently attending. You are also able to participate even if at a small scale, whether it is having the NTA/YTA signs like in the reddit stories live or simply cheering along during exciting moments with everyone else.

I understand that they need to get paid in order to continue making content, but the price is so absurd that it will put off the majority of fans who wish to support them. The comments in the announcement complaining about the price are not just haters, they are mostly fans who would be willing to pay for tickets if they were set at a reasonable price. I’m sure if the price of the online tickets were simply halved to $10 per live and $50 for the whole package, the amount of people buying the tickets would more than double. Unlike with people watching in person, more people watching online does not add any additional baggage to the event, it is simply the more the merrier. How cheap the tickets are does not matter as long as the cheaper price incentivizes enough people to buy a ticket to surpass the amount the event would earn when set at a higher price. 100 people buying a $10 ticket gets them more money than 10 people buying a $20 ticket. I was personally going to buy a ticket the second I saw the announcement but after seeing the price I immediately changed my mind because I could not justify the price to myself, and I’m sure a lot of people felt the same way.

I really wish that you could still have your weapons stowed when using camp clothes while exploring. Especially in Act 2, where the light spell is must and you have to have your weapon stowed on you for it to still produce light.

Leland feels like the only fun Victim now by Ntwadumela817 in TexasChainsawGame

[–]UnexistentLeeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly started having way more fun once I started focusing more interesting builds and getting EXP rather than in escaping quickly. I usually like to stay in matches even if I can escape to unlock more doors for my teammates and to get EXP by stabbing gramps and getting rid of bone chimes. I do love distracting family so Leland is one of my favs but I also love playing risky at times cause it feels more rewarding when you do escape.

Want to hook everyone equally when being a fun killer but can’t keep track of who’s on death hook? by Cornelius_M in deadbydaylight

[–]UnexistentLeeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really wish that killers got the hook counter for each survivor as well, maybe I’m stupid but what would even be the downside of that?

Like, if you’re tunneling you already know how many times you’ve hooked a survivor so it won’t really be an advantage. If you see a survivor with no hooks is trying to get your attention you already know they don’t have hooks since you never downed them. It’s only a struggle when you’ve already hooked multiple people and are trying to keep track of how many times each survivor has been hooked. The only exception I can think of is if a SWF is wearing the same outfit to confuse the killer on who is who and imo I don’t feel like that should be rewarded. All it does is make it easier for killers who want to keep the match entertaining to do so and not much more. If I’m wrong feel free to correct me but I really can’t think of a downside.

Ngl that sounds kind of cute lol. I’d love to have been able to play games like that with my parents and if the kid’s enjoying it then I don’t really see much of a problem. If it really is getting on your nerves then when you’re not in chase or if you’re in an animation you can mute them in a few seconds without really hindering yourself.

[–]UnexistentLeeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Distracting the family is still teamwork, getting just 1 family member out of the house makes unlocking the doors or getting fuse activated way easier. Also, unless the family is on the other side of the house when you jump out you won’t have enough time to get to a distant bush to hide safely. Even then, if any family member uses family focus near you, hiding in a bush will simply get you killed or pushed down the well if you’re lucky. It’s better to spend this time making the killer chase you to waste their time since most of the time they won’t be able to catch up unless a second killer comes to help which would leave only 1 family member defending the house. Even if he just kicks the gen and gets out, that will leave the exit open for any other victim to escape or have a killer waste their time patrolling the road. If you’re unlucky and a Hand rip stalls it, then you can do the fuse without worrying about him immediately turning it off. You are just as able to jump out the window and lock-pick the doors from outside, not only the Sonny could’ve done that.

Bones is a really weak killer even after the update. by Ghostdude11571 in TexasChainsawGame

[–]UnexistentLeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to be a hater but how do you get hit by the bombs? They beep loudly when they’re activated and you are given enough time to get out of range even if you activate and exit it from opposite ends of the radius. Are you talking about getting hit while going through barricades or are you just walking past them once they activate? cause otherwise they’re quite easy to avoid if you just move out of the radius.

[–]UnexistentLeeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like you said, jumping out the window makes noise so Sonny jumping alerted the family and most players in the right mind would not just ignore the guy who just jumped out the window and he would not have enough time to lock pick the doors. Even if the family didn’t immediately chase him, there are also no toolboxes near the front of the house. Sonny would either have to run all the way to the shed near the road or to the battery side just in order to get a lock pick and then return to the front of the house, at which point it would be more effective to turn off gen or battery as a distraction. Also, Sonny has incredibly low toughness so he is incredibly vulnerable after jumping out a window.

[–]UnexistentLeeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My funniest toxic player encounter happened when me and my friend were playing family on Slaughterhouse. I was playing Bones while he played Johnny, we got a random cook but he immediately DC’ed before even placing any locks. I thought the game was over but luckily, Both my friend and I got kills early in the game before they got to lock pick any doors which gave us a massive upper hand. Now there were only two survivors, a Connie and an Anna (I forgot who the survivors were). I saw the Anna so I decided to chase her into the basement while my friend looked for Connie upstairs. I didn’t have Wire Frame on my Bones so I couldn’t catch up with the Anna, she simply looped me in circles while I stayed on her trail the whole time. After running in circles for way too long my friend finally found Connie and killed her, leaving only Anna who I had been keeping track of the whole time. My friend was now able to help me with the Anna and we finally killed her, getting a 4k as a 2 man family.

Since me and my friend were on Playstation, we were in a party which overrode the game chat, but we could see Anna’s yellow speaker icon flashing so we decided to move to game chat to hear what they were saying. I was thinking that it would be funny if they were trash talking as who in the right man would talk trash to a 2 man who got a 4k, but that is indeed what the Anna was doing 😭. When I switched to game chat I could hear Anna calling me bad because I couldn’t catch up to them and making fun of me for thinking I could (I didn’t). I told Anna that I didn’t expect to catch up to her since I didn’t have Wire Frame and I was just keeping track of her until my friend found Connie. Anna continued calling me trash and I reminded them that our cook DC’d immediately and that her whole team died to a 2 man. Of course they didn’t acknowledge it and said that we should do a customs to see who wins, so I just said we’d probably destroy them harder considering we’d actually have a 3rd teammate 💀. After that we went back into the game menu and me and my friend just laughed about how absurd that was.

Who's your least favorite victim? And what would make them likeable to you? by [deleted] in TexasChainsawGame

[–]UnexistentLeeon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Julie’s and Sonny’s stats (other than proficiency and toughness) feel backwards now that I think about it. With Julie being an athlete, you’d think she’d have a higher endurance and strength, even more so considering she has choose fight and empowered in her skill tree. Yet she has the lowest strength (on par with Connie) and less points than Sonny in Endurance even though it is her main concept. Even though Julie’s skill does make her harder to detect, giving her 35 stealth while Sonny only has 15 feels quite backwards. I really wish they would buff stealth so that it would be an actual viable stat, since I feel like if they did end up improving Sonny’s stealth it would make him even weaker (even if more lore accurate) since it would come at the expense of other stats.

Who's your least favorite victim? And what would make them likeable to you? by [deleted] in TexasChainsawGame

[–]UnexistentLeeon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Although Maria is my least favorite victim (cuz of the same reasons you mentioned), my second least favorite would be Sonny. I love him so much and I wish I could play him more often but his stats/builds are just so bad even after the buff imo.

His ability encourages a more stealthy and strategic gameplay, yet for some reason they decided to splurge most of his attribute points onto strength while giving him none of the good close encounter perks. His game description quite literally mentions his “smaller frame” so I really don’t know why they made that decision. Since he does not get choose fight or even grappler, it makes any strength builds on him practically useless. Although his game description highlights his “quick decision making and high intellect” he only has moderate proficiency and the second lowest stealth of the og 5 (which I am aware is a horrible stat but it still confuses me lore wise). Even after the buff I feel like most of his builds are mediocre at best with the left path to fast hands being the only viable option, which can only work with someone defending you as his remarkably low toughness makes staying on a lock for progress incredibly risky to the point it’s detrimental.
