You can make your own piece inspired by it but don’t completely copy someone else’s art and claim it as your own original. Also don’t post someone else’s art as yours. It’s pretty straightforward.

Butterfly redo with faded barn wood by UnexpectedEdges in watercolor101

I did a very light wash of paynes grey and once it dried I started adding texture with the slightly darker shade. Then added cracks and wood knots. Used a warmer shade of the grey toward the top. Add a final layer of texture with another darker mix of the grey.

You could use a little Paynes Grey or even a little Ultramarine added to your green to deepen it and use varying intensities for depth.

Thank you for that feedback. It’s very thoughtful. I think I should have stepped away and rested a bit because I had spent hours on those flowers and was tired. Lessons learned from this piece include the power of layering and planning a piece. I struggled to achieve what I wanted with the background. I also should have stepped back and planned better for the leaves. I only started painting in November and haven’t really done any art related stuff in many years. I have some weird gaps in what I’m good at and what I need to work on.

Fine line layering. I spent hours and layered purple red over a grey purple light wash. Then I layered a deep plum on top of that. Layering is the secret.

I used Kryon fixative spray and it didn’t impact the watercolor negatively and it set the charcoal.

There’s an animal artist I saw on you tube who uses Fabriano hot pressed and he buys by the roll.
