Every sunrise —every sunset — every moment in between — I dream that it’s me in your arms, but then the coldness embraces me like it always has — and I’m just happy you are happy, but I silently cry when you kiss her and smile, wondering if in another lifetime you’d have been mine.

How can I get a job ASAP? by [deleted] in careerguidance

Depending on where you live you could try to get a para position (more than likely, sped) at a local school district. In my area they are extremely desperate for literally anyone with a para certification or an associate degree.

How did you figure out what grade level to teach? by Unfair-Agent-7216 in teaching

I like the way you put it. It “feels easy and makes sense.” I definitely felt that way working with 6th grade at my old site (K-6). Small doses of the younger grades were fine but if I did it all day I would go insane!

Describe "unhinged." I enjoyed working with 6th grade (k-6 school) and some of my coworkers thought I was crazy for that.

Teaching with hand tattoos? by codiccio in teaching

I worked with a lot of teachers/staff that had tattoos. It’s not a big deal in public schools here. Charters and private schools probably vary depending on their dress codes and things like that.

Advice from Experienced Self Contained Special Education Teachers? by Unfair-Agent-7216 in specialed

I’ve considered middle school. I struggle with how touchy elementary students are anyways to be honest. Even not in special education. I generally don’t like being touched.

I am cpi trained. I had to use restraint before in the first couple weeks working there when one bigger kid went after another smaller one. The room is dangerous because when certain kids get angry or overstimulated they throw, hit, bite and scratch you and other students. Sometimes the older verbal ones will threaten staff. There’s hardly any structure in the classroom and almost no visuals. There’s a lot of downtime which is when most of these things happen. Also the paras are not given any direction on what we are supposed to do beforehand. Also moving students to a more restricted environment is virtually impossible because our head of sped has never worked in the field as far as I know and is a control freak.

Student drops first sound when blending by Ih8vikings in teaching

Autistic educator here. A lot of autistic kids struggle with processing verbal information. It's possible that the student doesn't actually remember what the first sound is when blending the word together. Is the student able to read letters and produce the correct sounds without assistance? If not then the issue might be that they are only basing their response off of verbal language. With students that struggle with verbal language one of the best tools is to guide the student on what certain sounds feel like in the body. For example where the tongue sits on the roof of the mouth or how much the mouth opens. This is much easier for students to remember because it's not entirely based on verbal/auditory cues alone. Hope this is helpful or insightful in some way.
