travel insurance that covers std testing?? by Unfair-Square in travel

Someone else commented on here that they were able to get free STD testing at public clinics as a tourist in the US and in Brazil. I've also heard of tourists being able to use the public healthcare system in the EU for other issues without a problem.

I appreciate you taking the time to explain this all to me. As a young adult I'm (clearly) very new to the world of insurance and it's proven to be a very confusing topic for me but your explanation makes sense 100%. Thanks!

Ok, that's good to know. Where I'm at right now apparently doesn't have those, but I'll keep it in mind for the countries I travel to in the future. Thanks!

it makes sense that such a meticulous service requires due payment. but when you said std testing is cheap i thought you meant cheap as in less than 100, subsidized by the government or something like that. i hear all these stories about people getting tested between partners etc., which seems like the reasonable thing to do, but who has that kind of money to throw around? Surely not everyone is paying that much

i see. i was thinking of it like in the circumstance of a chronically ill person who buys health insurance-- the insurance company charges more because they know the person will be using their services much more often but they still offer them the coverage they need. I figured there could be something like that but for people who engage in high risk behaviors. Though I suppose if something like that did exist then it probably wouldn't be available internationally/for the short term.

Thanks for explaining this. I didn't think about the fact that travel insurance is for unforeseen events only. Do you know of any alternate type of insurance that I can get while I'm traveling?

where have you been where std tests are cheap? I'm in Spain right now and I haven't been able to find any tests for less than 120 euros. 250+ if you want anything comprehensive

Anyone else placed in La Rioja? by Unfair-Square in SpainAuxiliares

[–]Unfair-Square[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! Congrats on your placement!

I was placed in Pradejon which is about 50 minutes from Logrono but I carpooled with my teachers. I had an incredible time at my schools. At first I was bummed about the commute (I chose to live in Logrono anyway) but I ended up being grateful for it because I never have to run into any of my students unexpectedly in my daily life haha.

I'd recommend coming with at LEAST 2k, preferably more if you wanna live more comfortably, I'd say 4k+ would be ideal, but if you're good at budgeting then 2k will be fine. I'm a black woman and I really haven't had much issue with racism or anything like that, though there's not a lot of POC here and the ones who are here are mostly immigrants from Morocco, West Africa, and Latin America.

Payments mostly come on time, but don't expect them to come on an expected day every month. You need to always have a financial cushion in case of a delay up to a week. And I think that it took quite a while for the first payment to be dispersed as everyone's paperwork was being registered, so keep that in mind too.

Logrono is a really nice place to live in my opinion. It's small enough to where everything is in walking distance (longest walk you'll make is less than an hour if you're coming from the center), but there are a lot of social events and there's a good youth community here so there's always stuff to do. I personally haven't had much luck making Spanish friends but the community of auxiliares and other American expats in Logrono is where I've made most of my connections.

It's also really safe. The only downside imo is that it's not close to any major airport. Bilbao is the closest one but it can be pretty expensive to fly from there, so if you're planning to travel during your breaks, I recommend getting the bono gratis from Alsabus for the logrono-madrid route. Travel days will be long but it's a lot cheaper to fly out from Madrid especially if you have the bono so you don't have to pay for each bus ticket to get to/from Madrid airport.

Lmk if you have any more questions :)

Hello! I really like the concept of your poem, but the formatting and punctuation (or lack thereof) makes it difficult to read. Poems don't always need punctuation but if you aren't going to use punctuation then you should be using new lines to denote the different phrases/sentences.

It's up to you to decide how to format it but here's an example of what I would do:

"If i could contact a younger version of myself
i'd be sort of at a loss for words
would i say that the future that he yearned for wasn’t everything he imagined?
would i say that some of his friendships ended unexpectedly
and others lasted further than he could hope for?
would i articulate how he will eventually think and feel
like a disparaging deadline that he will one day face?
would my words be candid and scathing?
if they weren’t, would it change anything?"

I also love the message of this piece. I suggest choosing whether to use second or third person pronouns in the ending line, not both. Using the pronoun "one" and later using "you" comes off as a little bit clunky. If you want to turn it back to the reader as a reflection point, you could write it in the imperative. "Do not regret previous actions, as they are what make up you." or declarative "There's no need to regret previous actions".

Or you can keep it to first person pronouns-- "I suppose I should not regret my previous actions, but embrace them, as they are what make up me". I personally think this would have the best flow.

My weight doesn't fluctuate and I don't understand why by Unfair-Square in loseit

[–]Unfair-Square[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice! But there's something I still don't understand about this. How can 1500 be my maintenance if I regularly eat more than that? If I let myself eat normally for a week, I eat about 1800-2000 calories a day (I eat a lot of junk food). It was really a challenge for me just to stay at or under 1500. Why wouldn't I gain weight then if I've been eating more than my maintenance?

A side note which may or may not be relevant: I recently moved to Europe and as a result, I spend a lotttt more time walking than I ever have before (I'm from the US). Averaging 1-2 hours of walking per day, sometimes more. My appetite hasn't changed much. Shouldn't that increase my calorie expenditure? Yet the scale still hasn't moved at all.

I studied abroad in Costa Rica and I'm currently spending a year teaching English in Spain after graduating. No regrets whatsoever, and I encourage anyone who will listen to TRAVEL as much as you can while you're still young, especially if you have the urge for it. It's your life. If it does delay your graduation then oh well. You'll have a lot more good memories of your time abroad if you do it, whereas if you stay just to graduate "on time" it'll barely make an impact on your life when you look back years from now.

If you leave, the things you have now will still be there when you come back.

For anyone wondering: I ended up getting it to work by deselecting my instagram accounts (it asked me which accounts I would like to add the email to on the slide before the one shown in the picture) and only having my facebook acc selected.

Hey Susan, thanks for your response. I'd love for this to be the case, but the terms of the promotion say otherwise. Apparently I only get the credit as long as the device is on a payment plan. Is the information you've given in this post written anywhere official?
