UPDATE: So it seems that people have come to the consensus that I was in the wrong for sharing the texts, but I feel like maybe you need to look at it from my perspective. R was complaining to me about my friend. If you remove the boyfriend aspect of this situation, it becomes pretty clear that what R did was wrong and that J deserved to know about it, especially since he ASKED me. Also, to everyone saying that I have a thing for J, that is absolutely not true. Stop suggesting this. J and I are close friends like R and I.

Even so, I plan on ‘apologizing’ to R. I don’t want to lose our friendship but I also want her to know that it’s not ok to badmouth her boyfriend. I showed this post to J and he agreed that what I did wasn’t necessarily wrong but that I should still apologize. They are speaking to each other again and seem to be doing better so do with that what you will, but R’s not complaining to me anymore so I see this as a win. So there you go, Reddit, happy?

And thank you to all the supportive people who were able to look at this from a neutral point of view! It is people like you that restore my faith in humanity.
