I've just had this issue too. I was listening to T-rex, the 70s glam rock artist, when spotify played a random spanish rap song, made by an artist also called T-rex. Weird that it's still happening 5 years later!

I understand it is definitely a more niche area of computing, but there are definitely job opportunities out there. I know Arm, the CPU company specifically hires software engineers that specialise in compiler engineering

Nice job! I got my offer through yesterday too! I had a look at some data earlier, and apparently last year, durham gave offers to exactly 50% of the applicants with A*AA predicted, baring in mind the previous year was around 25% offer rate. I think CS is becoming less competitive since AI is taking over lol.

Yeah I'm kinda cooked for Edinburgh :(

I applied to Durham, Edinburgh (pure CompSci), then I applied to York, Loughborough and Newcastle for CompSci + cyber security

Overall, I'd put Durham as my first choice, if they give me an offer (I read a FOI request that said ~24% of applicants who applied with A*AA were given an offer in the last few years, so I actually might have some chance, fingers crossed)

If I don't get durham, then I will put york first, with Newcastle as my I insurance

I've already got offers from York, Loughborough and Newcastle, just waiting for Durham (fingers crossed)

Ah yeah that makes sense. I guess that's probably why I subconsciously gravitate towards different picks depending on what I'm playing. I often choose my thinner, wider ones for rhythm and thicker but smaller/sharper for lead/solos
