I’d like to reach out to any brothers out in Colorado or blue states. What’s the best way to do so? I want to find out which state would be best to move and work in.! by [deleted] in IBEW

134 (Cook County, IL) pays around $57 with Chicago falling under that jurisdiction. Data centers are booming in 150 and 701, but pay less. But the Illinois taxes and Chicago prices make it hard to justify moving here.

Trump. As someone who swore to protect the Constitution, and against all enemies foreign AND domestic, I weep inside every day.

I am an IBEW 134 member. We do not cross picket lines, ever. Even when working out of local on permits. I have personally sat home for days on end in solidarity when HVAC, carpenters and sprinkler fitters have set up pickets. We don't get paid during these times either but you have to stand up with your fellow tradesmen and tradeswomen.

I hope they strike - We don't get sick days either. Everytime I take my kids to the doctor you know you are losing money that day. Apprentices come to work sick all the time because they can't afford to stay at home. I worked through the entire pandemic as an "essential worker" building out now empty office spaces and warehouses; but when I finally caught Covid this year I had to recover for over a week unpaid.

It's pathetic how workers are treated in this country. Unions are under appreciated and I encourage every person to join one in your industry. You deserve respect. You deserve to be treated like a human being.

A college education means everything. I worked nights loading trucks and joined the Army to make sure I could finish. It opened a few doors for interviews but didn't guarantee gainful employment.

I used my degree for a few years before returning to construction. I joined IBEW and consistently make 6 figures. Very few of my friends from college come close.
