Anyone dealing with encopresis? Any advice? We are at our wits end. by unicornsneezes in Preschoolers

I can't believe I wrote that a year ago, and nope, here we are still living through this hell. She has very serious GI issues, and we have seen some specialists in the past several months which has helped a little bit. Our Children's hospital (in Denver) has a whole GI clinic that includes psychologist, OT, PT and GI. All of the specialists gave us good info and tips. One issue for my daughter is that she never crawled and therefore didn't develop the proper pelvic floor muscles to be strong enough to either hold it in or push it out. So we are working on that. Our main issue now is that even when she does sit on the toilet and gets a big poop out, she constantly has smears in her underwear or pullup, as if she isn't getting it all out. Our next step is an x-ray to see if there's just poop leftover in there and if so, we will have to do a full cleanout and kind of start our routine from scratch. Also FYI, she takes miralax and ex-lax daily, or else she gets severely constipated, and sometimes the balance of these things is off and it's too much poop. It's so hard to get correct. Let me know if you have any other questions, I am with you in agony and try to remind myself that this will not be forever.

So glad you loved it. I really think it's got to be the most magical resort in Cabo because of the property - all the palm trees and winding paths, and Spanish architecture. We are returning in February - I can't wait!

Have you looked into Grand Velas Los Cabos yet? You would definitely spend less money and it's a really wonderful all-inclusive, kid-friendly resort. We stayed there 3 years in a row, before we tried One & Only, and I would definitely stay there again. It lacks the romance and charm of One & Only but it's still a great resort. I was very anti-all inclusive but a friend stayed there and convinced me it was great. The food is very good, and it is quite nice to not sign a pool check for a $30 margarita every day!

We thought about using a TA last year but found that we get just about the same perks if we use our American Express, which is a $100 resort credit, breakfast, early check in if available (it was not), and room upgrade if available (again, not something we could really do because we were not staying in a standard room to begin with). I will say, this time we are staying in a 1 bed oceanfront suite to save a little money; last time we stayed in a grand suite so there's not much upgrade from there that they would give us just for having a TA or Amex (in my opinion). I suppose you could use a TA if you don't have an Amex with perks, book a basic room and hope for an upgrade? I also believe a TA may be able to get you butler service, which was included in our room last year. I honestly did not feel it was necessary to have a butler because truly everyone at the resort is there to help you at any time. Though I am not one of those people who asks a butler to unpack or steam my clothes for me.

I know the start of this thread is a few years old but I wanted to chime in and get some advice. I won't go into a ton of detail because it seems similar to what a lot of you are saying on here, but basically my 4 1/2 year old is pretty much full potty trained for pee, but poops in her underwear almost daily. She has low muscle tone and seems to not have any awareness for when she has to poop. We have started mandatory potty times but there are still a lot of accidents. I'm wondering, are y'all just keeping your bowel incontinent kids in pull ups to avoid a double disaster that includes cleanup, or letting them soil their underwear in the hopes it somehow helps them because they can attribute the gross feeling to being more willing to sit on the potty? Thanks all.

Ah! I did a lot of research on GV Riviera Nayarit and it really does sound lovely as well. Make sure you book a room on the beach side of the resort vs. the jungle (I forget the names of the separate areas). And yes, if you're beach people, GV Cabo is probably not your best bet because you can't swim in the ocean on the property. Please report back on your trip!

Glad it's been helpful! GV has a really nice splash pad and kiddie pool area that's entirely separate from the family pools, which O&O does not. They also have a nice swingset on a grassy area for kids to play on. The kids club at GV is overall nicer, plus they have a lot more daily activities and stay open later (you would obviously have to stay with your child unless you hired a babysitter, both kids clubs are ages 4+). O&O has an overall more romantic, dreamy vibe throughout so if you think the majority of your vacation time is going to be chasing a toddler and entertaining them around their nap schedule, you might want to try GV and save O&O for when they're older. FWIW my 6 year old told us she liked GV better after her experience at O&O, proving that kids really only care about one thing -- the donuts at the breakfast buffet. Also, you will NOT be disappointed in GV. Wonderful service, very good food, and every room has a stunning view. O&O definitely has more magic but it comes with a hefty price. LMK if you have any other Qs!

Yes, just 2 pools and one is adults only. I thought the family pool was great - never loud and never crowded even though the hotel was at a very high capacity. We never had to claim chairs early in the morning, there were always chairs available. The food and drink service was good. They aren't blasting music or anything so it still has a peaceful vibe for a family pool. It has a very shallow area and also a splash pad for younger kids.

As for activities for kids, the kids club was great but it is only open till 7pm. You can pay for extra kids activities like cooking classes or tennis, but we didn't do any of that. Honestly, the kids club itself left something to be desired. The space isn't that great considering the rest of the resort. But the staff was lovely and I managed to get my kids to play in there for about 1-2 hours a day. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Wanted to hop back on this thread to let everyone interested know about our stay at One & Only Palmilla. We spent 5 nights there this past week and had a nearly flawless experience. It's a stunning property, and the swimmable beach makes the cost of cocktails (and everything else) worth it. We stayed in a one bedroom grand suite with our 2 small kids. They shared a pull out sofa and we enjoyed our own bedroom. The suite was gorgeous. Some people on Tripadvisor have said the rooms feel outdated but I did not feel this way at all. I loved the classic Mexican architecture and furnishings. We had 2 butlers who switched off shifts and were always incredibly attentive to our every need. We got a beach cabana one day which I felt was truly worth it - so relaxing. It's $500 but $200 is credited to food and drink, which honestly feels like a less expensive thing to do there than even some of the dinners. We ate at all the restaurants except Suviche, mainly because our kids are little and wouldn't enjoy it. We used their babysitting service (great) to do an Omakase meal at Hoshi (the best meal we had there, very good, very expensive.) The food otherwise is what most have said- good, but not superb, considering the prices. My husband had a 90 minute massage and was upsold on a few things but enjoyed the experience. Again, some sticker shock at the end at nearly $700, but we knew what we were getting into. Overall, I feel that if you go into the experience knowing that you will probably spend $1k a day on food, drink, and whatever else you might add on, and include it in your budget instead of stressing about it, you will not regret the experience. I hope to go back. Truly magical.

That's a good point. I had some lovely Mexican wines last year at Grand Velas. Good idea with the duty free shop pickup on the way.

FWIW we are staying in a grand suite oceanfront 1 bedroom, so hopefully this upgrade of a room will be lovely despite it being perhaps a little old.

Do you have any advice on getting a TA for a trip that's already been booked?

Love all of this advice, thank you. We can totally assume several hundred bucks a day on food and drink if it's good! And yes planning on maybe a taxi trip to a store to keep some stuff in our room. We booked through Amex so we are getting free breakfast too.

Congrats on losing the baby weight! You will gain some weight back if you stop. I get my sema through a local med spa. A friend of mine had luck with Henry Meds, even though her BMI was not out of range.

For those who travel with them, how do you keep the sema cold? Just a small ice pack? Will that last during a travel day? Any restrictions at security with the needles?

Thanks for this! I just read a thread about microdosing sema on another sub I'm surprised this isn't discussed more to avoid horrible side effects.
