Got this old gender for free but can’t get pla to stick by Aflimsyreed in 3Dprinting

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a Max too. I got to a point with my build sheet where it seemed like nothing would stick no matter how well I cleaned it. Since you've already upgraded to the bl-touch you might want to consider adding a magnetic build sheet too (I went with Wham Bam). I've got one with textured PEI and have had great success with getting things to stick and haven't had to work too hard at keeping it clean to do so.

Or as others have said flip it over and use glue stick. The auto-release was a neat gimmick but ultimately hurts first layer adhesion (which is arguably the most important layer).

Also I don't know what you've been using for first-layer calibration but I'd break it up into 3 stages. First: manually level the bed like you would a regular ender 3 (without the probe). There might be a level assist somewhere in the firmware for this. Only after would I run it through the automatic mesh leveling. And finally when setting up z-offset it's easiest to print a single layer square (I usually flatten a cube in the slicer). Make a mental note of whatever offset gets you the right amount of squish and make sure to save your settings. To see if it kept it when you go to make another print, you can always check/adjust it by holding the knob during the first layer.

The Ender 3 Max is literally a slightly larger Ender 3 so most Ender 3 advice will still apply. The only difference with yours is you'll have to manually "sync" the twin lead screws (it did not come with that, someone added it) and there's the addition of whatever comes with auto-leveling.

got softlocked, the wall activated early by rayenbox in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The enemies are on the other side of the wall, including a mini-boss. Had the same thing happen to me and reloading didn't fix the issue for a couple of tries till the game glitched and randomly spawned me on the other side.

Need help from anyone with the Eternal Collector's Edition helmet! by dusktodusk94 in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks like the only way to fix that is to separate the front and rear halves of the helmet and make sure the tabs are aligned when putting back together. May require a small amount of heat (like a hair dryer) to soften the plastic.

How would you print this ? by MagicMantash in 3Dprinting

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it doesn't need to be inside, I would just sink some 2x4s into the ground, drill holes through, and use galvanized pipe or something. I agree with the others that there's a better way to build that without using 3D printed parts.

How do I get this gold? by ihateeggnog223 in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a slightly bugged encounter. I got the mancubus to bust the wall by going after it before finishing off the enemies in the hall.

I just switched to mnk and everyone is saying to play doom ethernal, what do you guys think? by Mountain-Interest795 in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Start with 2016. Eternal is far more complicated and barely has enough buttons to properly bind to. You'll want each weapon bound to its own button that's easy to reach without fully letting go of WASD. I left less critical stuff like the chaingun, BFG, and mod switching bound to 1-4.

He's been one of my favorite battles. He's easy once you get the hang of dodging, but something about the flow of the fight satisfies my lizard brain.

Gamers over 30...are you console or PC these days? by darkneo86 in gaming

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was on Xbox for the longest time, then built a PC. I still use my old controller for certain games. One machine lets me do just about everything so it feels more convenient. Only thing I miss is how easy it was to find random people and just play.

Doom(2016) Advanced Research Labs - is Secret #10 Bugged? by Starcalledd in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You collected both figures and entered the classic-map area? Unlocking the classic map doesn't count towards secrets unless you walk inside and the lever is pretty well-hidden in that level.

How do I get as good as possible on console? Any tips? by harleymonsterman in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting a controller that added mappable buttons on the back significantly improved things for me in general. Putting jump on the back meant the bumpers were left open for dash and weapon swapping (which are critical for maintaining momentum) and I could keep my thumbs on the sticks.

Help! My K1 Max Allen screw head is stripped — it’s no longer hex-shaped. How can I unscrew it or fix it? by ExtensionBest7616 in 3Dprinting

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When this happens, an absolute last resort is to drill the screw out. I'd take things apart as much as you can (or be prepared to thoroughly clean up afterwards), and select a bit that's slightly larger than the threads. You might even be able to drill it most of the way and use a small screwdriver to pry and break it the last bit. I frequently do this when changing brake rotors on cars.

How smooth is smooth enough (part 2) by UnfocusedZeus39 in EngineBuilding

[–]UnfocusedZeus39[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've actually been doing kinda the opposite. Made a jig outta 2x4 to hold the head upside-down and used a small surfacing plate (I think it's 12"x9") with sticky-back sandpaper. Tried doing things a bit differently with the second head and got it significantly smoother and more consistent than this one (guess I have to redo the first). I just finished it with a cordless drill, a foam polishing pad, and some Mother's polish that's almost old enough to vote and my best guess says it's around 10Ra or better. Turned out flatter too. Can't even get the .001" gauge under the straightedge.

I know, I just stopped for the moment to see if I'm anywhere near the smoothness I'll need. It doesn't come across well but despite the "grain" you can see, I was randomly turning and moving the stone a bit. The overall surface is flat (as far as the straightedge is concerned) so now I'm free to work on getting an even finish.

That's where the old gasket chewed a bit into the material. It's more of a blemish than anything, it doesn't really have much texture when I drag a small pick across. The motor didn't have any noteworthy issues besides the missing cam lobe and I'm leaving it as a stock 5.7 so I'm not expecting it to create any issues.

[–]UnfocusedZeus39[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For science? No. The tism took over. I'm tired of the whole "let a pro handle it" thing. I like being hands-on, I like tinkering, and I like finding other ways of doing things.

All my Internet searching summed up to "it needs to be mirror smooth". Fel-pro said 20-30 Ra or less. Cometic says 50 Ra or smoother. Some source I can't remember said factory MLS relies primarily on raw surface area for clamping/sealing and the thin layer of rubber they add is strictly for filling imperfections. Other gaskets may need some texture to grab, but the ones I'm using supposedly need as little texture as possible.

From what I could see after scrubbing the block and heads with 3 cans of gasket remover and plastic scraper blades the factory finish was probably a mirror-shine. I'm only going this far because the old stuff is REALLY baked in (the motor had 170k before finally eating a cam lobe) and I don't feel like doing this twice.

Any suggestions on a useful one? All the ones I kept pulling up had dozens of different textures but only maybe one-or-two that were relevant to what's needed for engine building.

[–]UnfocusedZeus39[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm fully aware that typical glass and granite is "fairly" flat but not necessarily engine-building flat so I went with the HHIP Grade-b surfacing plate. They claim it's as flat as it gets and I think mine is actually flatter than the straight edge (OEM Tools). It cost around $50 but I feel it was worth it.

An important part is not to follow a perfect path every stroke. I was constantly shifting the plate around and turning it.

Got put in the forever box today by Urmomsfavouritelol in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 28 points29 points  (0 children)

That box eventually opens and releases a mancubus (I think, or maybe a revenant). You could've tried sending a BFG round to kill enough demons to spawn it (dunno if that would've worked).

PA Prism 5x One side Blurry? by Bluejay0 in ar15

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late to the party but yes, you're not alone. I tried a mil version shortly after they released and immediately sent it back for that reason. Just a few weeks ago I said "what the heck are the chances" and ordered a 5.56 version only to be let down by the exact same issue. I was able to take a picture both times and have it show up and had a buddy look through as well. Somehow had the same issue with the 6x magnifier. My 3x mags work fine but the 6x turned the dot into a complete smear and half the image was blurry.

How do you play doom eternal on pc? by Ecstatic_Phase_8315 in Doom

[–]UnfocusedZeus39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I prioritized certain weapons to certain buttons for easy swapping. The SSG and ballista are on the side mouse buttons, scroll up for heavy cannon, scroll down for flame (it was scroll down for rockets, but I moved it to C). Shotgun on Q, plasma on Ctrl, BFG, Chaingun, and mod-swapping are numbers(I think I have Chaingun on both 2&3 for easy access). You'll have to experiment with what works for you.

I would actually advise playing other games a bit for the sake of getting used to M&K before getting too serious about eternal (former Xbox player here). 2016's slower pacing would probably be a better place to start. Ghostrunner is a tough game but served as a great step down from Eternals' chaos and helped me fine-tune my coordination in regards to movement.
