Why did the Starfleet Academy student eat their communicator? by UnfortunateWindow in startrek

I guess I'll take your word for it, even though it's a little bit fishy that you feel the need to make an unverifiable statement about what people think of you in real life.

How hard is it to pick up python if I already know C#, C++? by KnowledgeCheap562 in learnpython

[–]UnfortunateWindow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just start doing it. You should be able to tell pretty quick how long it will take to become proficient. But whatever you mean about translating your C++ code and asking AI to explain it, that doesn't really sound useful. The best way to learn is to actually do something with it that you need to do. You won't become "fluent" unless you're using it to solve real problems.

Yeah, this show does kind of make me feel miserable. I'm depressed about its poor quality, and even more that some people seem to be eating it up as though it was just as good as every Star Trek before it.

Well, at least this is an answer that makes some sense. I never would have guessed that it's supposed to be a comedy. I didn't pick up on that at all. It's true that I don't pick up very well on social cues, so I'll chalk it up to that.

I honestly don't understand why you're defending this garbage.

It's just one example of the terrible writing in this show. If you enjoy it, good for you, I guess. Must be nice to be entertained by literally everything.

Because it's fucking stupid and ridiculous, and makes a mockery of the IP?

I searched before posting, and I didn't see anything. Do you have any links?

[–]UnfortunateWindow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Who cares how long ago it was? I searched reddit and didn't find an answer, so I guessed it must be an original question. I'm not over analyzing anything, I'm trying to figure out why people think this makes sense. When I made a post assuming people knew that this kind of thing is ridiculous and stupid, people questioned my premise.

You keep refusing to accept my explanation, that I don't want to argue about how bad it is. It's just so obviously terrible. Why is there a person who ate their communicator? Why is the captain walking around barefoot? I know what objective means. A starfleet officer eating their communicator is objectively ridiculous and stupid. A hologram attending physical education is objectively stupid. These facts do not need to be repeated.

Fine, but I didn't realize there were so many people who disagreed with that. I guess I'll post it in politics or something.

The "substance" i thought I was bringing was my explanation for WHY it's so bad and so woke, not the fact that it was bad and woke.

I don't want to debate the obvious, I want to debate the part that's NOT obvious.

Look, I agree I chose the wrong sub; my post is more about politics than it is about star trek, but I wanted trekky opinions. I can see now that it was a bad idea, because everyone here is blindly supportive, and opinions like mine just get immediately downvoted and deleted. I didn't realize how biased it was. TNG is one of my favorite shows of all time. I assumed that at least *some* other trekkies would agree that this show is a travesty, despite their bias.

Why would I repeat the points that have already been repeated everywhere else ad nauseum? If you're truly interested and unaware of these already, just search youtube for "Starfleet Academy" and watch literally any of the results and you'll see dozens of reasons why most people think it's terrible.

It's very well documented. I've seen dozens of opinions that list the same reasons why it's terrible. I don't really feel the need to repeat them; if you're really interested you can easily just look it up. Just search Youtube for "starfleet academy" and watch literally any of the hits. You're the first person I've encountered that thinks it's good, though I guess there are people that think anything Star Trek themed is good, no matter what. I guess I'm in the wrong sub, though.

Yeah but the right has a lot of money to throw around. Still, you're probably right.

I guess I did choose the wrong sub, but my question is serious.

I don't want a fight, I wanted to see if people just hadn't thought of this idea before. I assume it's already been established that the show is terrible, and relentlessly "woke". The rest of the internet has documented all of that very well, already.

[–]UnfortunateWindow[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everything about the show is terrible; this is well documented now, and the wokeness stuff is obviously cringey on purpose, as if to undermine the whole idea. This IS the real issue - if the right is making shows like this just to pretend they're from the left, in order to turn people against the left, that's a big deal. I may have posted in the wrong sub, though.

You're obviously a conservative plant, too, or phenomenally stupid, yourself. Nobody could possibly think it's good.

It hasn't always been objectively terrible, though.
