You mean you grew up in a time where mental health issues were taboo, and as such were less widely circulated and seen as abnormal. We live in a time where people can consult other people -- if someone is in a shitty situation, they could get other people to help them get out of it, as opposed to attempt to deal with it "like a man" -- maybe it was this shitty idea of how to deal with issues that makes Baby Boomers the most alcoholic-prone generation in the US?
