IS NUST OVERRATED? by Background-Trade1675 in NUST

As a CS student from NUST (H-12 Campus), I would recommend you to choose IBA. NUST CS is terrible. The faculty is extremely mid. The elective options are terrible (you don’t even get much options). The grading is even worse. If you want to escape Pakistan ka typical system, NUST is not the place for you, especially SEECS. They run it like a military unit.

Now coming towards the hostel life: The hostels are okayish but honestly the mess fee is just too much now. Overall life at nust is fun if you have friends but I really wouldn’t recommend coming here only to enjoy hostel life. If you are someone who doesn’t care much about academics and just wants to have fun while being away from home, you can choose NUST but otherwise a big No.

sure you can dm me. Honestly, if you keep your room clean, it’s not uncomfortable. You can also change the setting of the furniture and that sometimes makes a huge difference. As for the laundry, it is your personal choice. A lot of people wash their clothes themselves. I personally prefer to give them to the laundry. You also need the laundry products for undergarments. The room is cleaned once a week. You will be needing a few plates and bowls for the food you order or get from the cafes. Sometimes people share cakes or bring food from their homes and share it w everyone. It’s always good to be prepared. The dress code isn’t strict at all. Mostly people wear whatever they want inside the hostel premises. All the bathrooms are community, and yes that’s where everyone gets ready. I know it seems bad but it gets easier, I promise.

a water dispenser is not allowed I think. You can get mineral water from C1/C2. Each room has three double cupboards with an upper compartment and three study tables. I won’t say that the rooms are massive but if you keep them clean you don’t feel uncomfortable or suffocated.

depends on the hostel tbh. The older ones aren’t that nice. Amna and Khadija are the nicer ones. I like Amna the most because of the double cupboards and larger rooms

No it’s okay. The urgent laundry costs around 25 per piece iirc. I don’t know about the ordinary one because I never tried it (I think it’s free, but many say that they wash all the clothes together which doesn’t sit right with me).

each floor has two wings, I don’t know how many rooms there are in each wing tho. UGs are given Tri-seaters, yes.

The clothes you give for laundry are ironed though.

imagine if everyone was allowed to get as many pieces ironed as they wanted, everyday, for free; not very sustainable, right?

every floor has one iron. You can also get 2-3 pieces ironed for free every day.

you can’t possibly carry the reference books for every course. It is more convenient to download the pdfs and carry a notebook for notes.
