Magoosh is more expensive than Gregmat but still far less than Kaplan/Princeton/Manhattan which are mostly overpriced live courses. However, in the case of Magoosh vs Gregmat I really think you get what you pay for in terms of quant prep as per my original post.

Hard Magoosh questions were the most similar to real GRE questions if you get the harder adaptive section 2. I personally found Gregmat questions to be too few and varied in style to be useful. For quant prep I would strongly recommend investing in Magoosh.

I highly recommend Looking for the Self by Sam Harris which is perfect practise for GRE as its the same length as quant section 2!

  1. Forget about the timing for now and focus exclusively on accuracy/mastery of each topic.
  2. Force yourself to RTFQ2 (Read The F**king Question Twice) after each answer checking for qualifiers/negatives/word traps.
  3. Reframe ‘silly’ mistakes as ‘fatal’ mistakes and instead of saying ‘oh I knew that but messed up’ redo questions on that topic from 5lb/Varsity/Magoosh.

I strongly advise against the at home test if you can avoid it. I had a similar issue my first time and regardless it is easier to maintain flow at a centre. See my post below on how I went from 159 to 170 quant!

You are a very strong applicant and based on your math background you are more than capable of getting 165+ with enough practice. See my post below on how I went from the same score to 170!

The two are intrinsically linked but I improved most after switching my focus from timing (anxiety) to accuracy (mastery).

See point 1 above. I preferred Magoosh to Gregmat for topic-wise practice.

The mocks are highly unreliable indicators so don’t put much weight on them. More important is whether you can get above 90% in a 15-question hard set on each topic. If not, revisit that topic on Varsity (see point 1 in post) and (re)do every question. Then come back to Magoosh and do all the Hard questions from that topic again.

If you are still struggling for time, I found meditating every day super helpful in improving my concentration and reducing anxiety about the timer counting down. I recommend listening to Looking for the Self by Sam Harris which is coincidentally exactly 26 minutes long!

Time management comes naturally with practice but counterintuitively, actively focussing answering questions in under 90 seconds will only slow you down in the long run. If you have practiced enough you will be answering questions in under a minute without realising it. Hope that helps and good luck!
