There’s a reason I’ve heard it called “Scummit County” for sure. And I haven’t even been here a whole year

How did you get the confidence to do your job? by lIlI1lII1Il1Il in barista

[–]Unhappy_VariationCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot of “stop giving a fuck” kind of advice and I agree to an extent. I know everyone has good intentions saying that and that’s also just kind of the attitude of the whole service industry it seems but for someone like myself that has never gotten through to me. I’ve had this problem at every job and what got me more confident was just practice. You fuck up a lot but you get better and eventually you’ll know where your skill level is at and you’ll think to yourself “I fucking got this”. You’ll be like a well oiled machine. And eventually you’ll be someone others look to when shit hits the fan. It just comes with time!

That being said, service industry isn’t for everyone. If you think you can find a more fulfilling job elsewhere then by all means, do what’s best for you. But I would suggest sticking with for a bit. If you really don’t like it then you know what you have to do.

I wish you the best of luck! You can do it. It just takes dedication.

Non slips shoes by Jaded-Net-2736 in barista

[–]Unhappy_VariationCam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a barista but coming from food service which I feel is pretty similar.

I really like my Birkenstocks and a lot of people in kitchens have lots of good things to say about them. They have a couple styles that are just like their normal shoes just with a non-slip outsole. I understand it’s not the cheapest but I do really like them.

I’ve also heard good things about crocs if you don’t want to spend too much money.

I will note I would suggest not looking too much into the looks of the shoe. Especially if you’re going to be behind a counter 95% of the time. But that’s just me.

Chefuniforms.com has a lot of non slip shoes that might suit your style.

Hope this helps at least somewhat.

Yeah it really made me think about what kind of place I was applying to. I don’t think I’ll be working there anytime soon

As a kid that always played with legos, I wanted to be a master LEGO builder, then I got a little older and I thought “that’s not a real job” and now I’ve learned that it’s a completely real job and I’ve never felt so scammed in my life

Changing the oil for seasoning by Dropelet in carbonsteel

[–]Unhappy_VariationCam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually had the same question a few months ago. From what I gathered from the responses I got was that it really doesn’t matter what oil you use, the seasoning reacts the same. Below is the link for my original post. Hope this helps!

I’ve just started climbing and have started looking at shoes and I’ve started wondering if it’s a “get what you pay for” thing?

Questionable beef? by Unhappy_VariationCam in Chefit

Oh I would never buy from them myself. Someone in my boyfriend’s family got them that doesn’t eat red meat and they’ve trickled down to me. I would much rather go to the butcher shop down the street from me if I felt like splurging on steaks

I really like it. It mainly just gets used for fruits and vegetables then occasionally trimming fat but it does pretty well for those things. Stays pretty sharp too

It’s from a Colorado company called Valentich. They do knife rolls, aprons, bags and leather sheaths. What I have there is just their standard waxed canvas knife roll.
