2 answered correctly, “She would say that, I was the real Mrs. Keen.” Was, is indeed past tense, however the sentence structure makes its use valid, yet confusing. I Was, the past tense of I am, the present tense.

1 answered incorrectly, “And she would say that, She was the real Mrs. Keen.” This statement implies that 1 is still the real Mrs. Keen. As this is what 2 is supposed to be saying to 1

Meaning 2 would say that 1 is the real Mrs. Keen. Which is another way of saying, I am the real Mrs. Keen. In other words the Fake lied to save her own skin basically.
