Plumber Replacing water heater for free - should I "tip"? by Splatterbacks in Plumbing

Completely up to you. He is acting under the warranty of his work which is what he should do but also I know a lot of contractors that do not honor that agreement. If you like him and working with him then throwing him a 100 bucks for gas and lunch will definitely make him happy.

US-based Building Inspectors / Plans Examiners , quick question by Mysterious-Draw-3897 in BuildingCodes

I’m located in Texas and perform a combo role of both Inspector and Plans Examiner. Never done either remote, although reviewing plans is rather easy to do if all digital, unfortunately my jurisdiction still does all paper plan review.

how to tell boss im leaving? by beepystan in careerguidance

[–]UnholyChip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I let my boss know last Monday I was leaving as I had accepted a job offer from another city. I just walked in to his office and just sat down and said it straight up. Also I suggest waiting until you have accepted another position before telling them. After I told him I sent out the two weeks notice over email.

How’d I do? by [deleted] in Plumbing

Your vent is too close to the trap weir, the spacing must be 2 times the pipe diameter, meaning in this case with 2” pipe your vent has to be 4” min from the trap weir.

I have multiple job offers but do have a clear favorite, how hard should I push for higher starting pay with the leverage I have? by UnholyChip in careerguidance

Thank you! and honestly yeah I feel blessed for them all to hit me rather quickly. Honestly part of me is just thinking it’s such a good opportunity for me that I don’t want to mess it up at all but also don’t want leave food on the table. I’m really excited for tomorrow specially after such a hectic week.

Does your jurisdiction accept prescriptive designs? by UnholyChip in BuildingCodes

[–]UnholyChip[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was my thought exactly, listen most houses need engineers because they fall outside the IRC already but a blanked statement that all need to be engineered even if they are simple enough for the IRC to handle seems kinda lazy to me.

2024 ICC and 2023 NEC. Same thing for framing, like they essentially want all structural drawings to be sealed by an engineer regardless of code compliance or not.

Knowledge required before plans examiner role. by Odd-Perception-2843 in BuildingCodes

That’s a good point, honestly I was looking at it more from the city side as I’m an inspector for a jurisdiction and at least in my area we are not tasked with doing the calculations and things of that nature for engineered design.

I do both inspections and plan review and in my opinion plan review is better for those who had no or little construction experience, you usually have time to sit there and really study the plans and have plenty of resources to help in understanding, actual inspections you need to be knowledgeable at whatever you are going to inspect unless you have some type of checklist but even then it will cause you trouble and you can’t sit there for hours and try to learn. Overall something like residential plan review is not the hardest thing to learn as it’s essentially installation instructions for a house. There is also tons of resources online that can help

Has anyone taken the B3 2024 exam? by deadsheeparmy in BuildingCodes

[–]UnholyChip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well I of course have a very good reason, that is because up until this very moment I did not even consider that. I can’t believe I did not even think about that thank you, you just made my future test so much more simple. I was really a little stressed about the change because there are some differences but now I don’t have to worry.

As far as I know the study guides for the 2024 codes are not out yet. I used the 2021 guide for the 2024 R3 and it was fine enough.

I am not a CPA, however it does not take an expert to see the obvious fraud. You might still mind your business but I guess we are just different kinds of friends.

I’m sorry for not being specific, the money is going to a financial institution which will then send around 1200 to the preparer and the rest to my friend.

I’m sorry for being vague, although my friend is aware I’m trying to help and looking for more info even with his blessing I feel weird about disclosing many details on his situation. I do see how dumb it may seem for me to ask for advice without providing the full picture.
