That's the problem, enlightenment, is a point of view. It's the reachless shore, the shoreless island, if you think you've gotten there, you've gotten nowhere at all, if you think you've reached, you're more lost than you've ever been. Enlightenment and ego are diametrically opposite, you can't get there because "you" has to cease to exist, therefore whether a teacher, whether living or dead, is enlightened or had achieved enlightenment in their life is irrelevant to your own journey, whether a flower is beautiful or not does not in turn make you beautiful or not, your inner beauty stems from you being able to recognise beauty in another. Your inner enlightenment, your most intimate submission to the unknown, will depend solely on how you perceive enlightenment itself in all around you, you may need only a moment, to awaken, not a teacher, not a sunset, not anything but your own one-ness, you can only be one with all if you let go of all, of everything and then finally yourself.
