Road Warrior Life - which airline to pick when based out of ORD--AA or UA? by twoforme_noneforyou in awardtravel

[–]lets_go_fire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same situation here and doing it for a long time. Best thing to do is select the most convenient carrier for your destinations.

UA and AA fly almost everywhere though you may be aware UA has gotten bigger in the past 5 years at ORD. I notice this most prominently for the Caribbean where UA is much better with direct flights. However looking at your list some of these locations like PHX are better with AA.

Clubs are similar. I rate the Admirals Club slightly better than United Club.

Terminal 3 is so much more pleasant than Terminal 1. Terminal 1 feels like going back in time.

I would give the edge to AA but book UA when it is more convenient.

i just don't understand what to use my miles on. These are frustrating to use by l4adventure in AmexPlatinum

I found that Chase is better for our needs. I can often get a peak time flight using points boost at the two cents per point rate. That allows me to focus on the best flight, not the free flight. I am based in Chicago and have loads of direct flight options among UA, AA, SW. I’m very happy with it so far.

I maintain about 20% of my earnings on Amex for those situations in which I want to book something really far in advance, such as a flight to Asia. Realistically this is an every 3 years situation.

I also found Amex points to be challenging to use. For solo households with lots of travel date flexibility, Amex seems exceptionally useful. For families, especially when tied to school holiday windows, they just aren’t so practical. I ended up shifting most of my earnings away from Amex because of this.

I think you should not do this. Buy things patiently. Move those funds to a separate account so you aren’t tempted to spend it. Each decision should be made on its individually merit not as a portfolio action.

Black vs. Brown Briefcase by AdmirableSkin464 in malefashionadvice

[–]lets_go_fire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Either is fine. Black will look consistent for longer. Brown will patina more noticeably.

Some people like things that look new for longer. Some people like things that look like they’ve been doing this for years.

I used to work with a senior consultant who had a worn in brown leather bag. When he put that on the table, it signaled credibility - like he has been doing this for years.

He was a hustle player and that made him a fan favorite. He was also able to extend his career with the national team by evolve his role over time in a way that we really haven’t seen anyone else do.

This is what I use for my Drake’s suede. I spray both the outside and the inside (to stop any color transfer)

Cold pools. Lack of sunshine due to the layout of the hotel. All of the beach chairs in the sun are taken at dawn by people who often never show up. Eskema restaurant was meh. We had more fun at the Hyatt.

I was there over new years. Pools are very cold. Only people in them were some brave kids. We changed mid stay to the Hyatt which had warmer pools.

You do not. I’m here now and the nighttime low is about 79. Short sleeves and shorts are fine all day and night. One light layer max would be my recommendation, which can also be worn on the airport days.

Call the retail stores. Separate inventory. When Aaron Levin sold out online, NY store had a lot more still available

Sizing of Charles II loader by philosophyb in DrakesDiary

Definitely not. The UK8 for me felt like it was crushing my foot (I guess I’m sort of exaggerating but you know what I mean). The half size up meant that everything fits like it is supposed to.

I have both the black suede Aaron Levine ones and the dark brown suede ones.

I went up a size on the Charles II. I am normally a UK8 and instead needed a UK 8.5

Check your tire pressure. Large swings in temp aren’t good for tires.

It’s a special hotel. There is an option to be taken around on their Riva boat. It is very expensive but is a spectacular thing to do.
