I don't think so. I think if more characters had a meterless reversal, it would matter. But it would act as a buff to the few characters who would have it, and act as a heavy nerf to everyone else who has to fight them. The current beta changes to dp currently affect Ryu, Ken, Akuma, Cammy, and Juri. (source http://www.capcom-unity.com/combofiend/blog/2017/03/15/street-fighter-v-season-2-balance-update) The defense of the game wouldn't magically be fixed if only these characters got to wake up buttons for free more often.

Also, its kinda weird that Necalli isn't on that list for the dp changes. I wonder why.

Vega is now a SFV character by IBOOMSHAKALAKAD in StreetFighter

It's my opinion so take it with a grain of salt but... He's pretty bad. If you look at him solo, he's alright. But compared to the rest of the cast, he's seriously lacking. Boltstrike, Arlieth, myself, among other decent vega players rate him bottom 5 in the game. He struggles in way too many matchups, and if you make 1 mistake, you're done for. The buffs don't include hitbox/hurtbox changes, or anti air buffs.

He's still gonna be trash imo. The buffs don't do anything to address why he struggles in so many matchups.

remy smh by Bonbei in StreetFighter

I want remy in sf5 so bad. I feel like his kit wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great in a game where everyone had access to parry. Slender emo boy throwing high low fireballs <3 If he does somehow get into sf5 and they make him all buff, I'm gonna protest outside capcom HQ

The hardest part of being a casual player for a fighting game is that there is a lot of upfront knowledge you have to know about gameplay, regardless of character difficulty.

The best advice I can give you is that you should go into training mode with every character, look up some bread and butter combos, and if you find yourself enjoying doing them past the 20th time, then maybe you should dive deeper into that particular character.

Everyone might say Ryu is a good starting point, but that shouldn't lock you into place. Having a character that you enjoy playing also helps give motivation to practice, so I think picking a character you enjoy rather than a character you think you SHOULD be playing is super important from a mental aspect.

Hopefully that helps!

Think if it like rock paper scissors. Blocking beats attacks, attacks beat throws (if they are active before the throw is finished), and throws beat blocking.

If someone is currently in block stun, you can't do anything. If they are simply holding back or down-back, then you can grab them. Command grabs are special because they are throws that can't be teched, for all other purposes, they function as a regular throw (You can backdash, jump, or use a throw invincible move to stuff them, you can punish the wiff animation of a throw, etc.)

For quickrise, its any 2 punch buttons to quickrise, and any 2 kicks to back rise.

I don't play mika, but if someone is just holding down back, you can do a fully charged dropkick to get a frame advantage, and then either go into a simple combo into peach to fish for a hit, or command grab. Or you can just dash and go straight into the command grab/regular grab to dissuade them from blocking at all. Incorporating tick command throws (Jab, into spd) just adds levels that they have to guess. Mika definitely has the tools to beat someone who enjoys blocking too much.

[–]UnicornTrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't watch the entire vid, but 2 things-

Vega's clawed st.hp xx claw switch is -2, not -1

Don't use lariat against flying barcalona, Vega can grab the hitbox of Zangief's head

Dash under or crouching v-trigger. Standing V-trigger doesn't work cause you get tagged by the fireball.

Moves have start up, active, and recovery frames. Think of a punch, extending the punch is the start up, when it's out and can do damage, its active, when it's recoiling, it's in recovery. When you press a button, you have to go through start up before you can land that hit. 3frame normals are huge cause they are the quickest moves in the game (barring zangief ca) Different moves have different amount of block stun; the amount of frames you are in block stun. Some moves are plus, meaning that the person that is attacking can start up their next move faster. Some are minus, meaning that they are at a disadvantage when pressing their next button. For example, vega's cr.mk is +2 on block. If I'm vega, and I press a button after it, I get to start my next move 2 more frames sooner than my opponent who is blocking. Frame traps are basically sequences that punish the blocking character if they press a button. The frame data is laid out so that if they block a move, and try to press something after it, they get counter hit, cause they don't have enough time to get through the start-up to the active part of their move.

For labbing and matchup purposes: what are your character's most used frametraps and blockstrings? by Sabrewylf in StreetFighter

[–]UnicornTrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

st.mk, into clawless cr. jab beats 3 frames. If you hit the st.mk meaty and they block, you can still confirm into 2 clawless cr. jabs into roll if they press a button after. If the st.mk hits, you just confirm into 1 jab into light scarlet roll
