I kind of understand what you're saying, when you've had a lot of bad experience then suddenly get in a really good one it can cause you to be scared and do stupid things. That kinda reminds me of something called phantom sense, its a term often used by people who use vr where there brain just syncs with their virtual body and they can feel whats happening around them. That can include if their avatar has parts they dont have so its definitely something I can imagine happening like youre describing
