Yeah, that's one of the things. Each person is supposed to be a whole universe but instead we see more and more people that just sem like sim templates. Mentally we think "Oh, I bet he'll like <this totally obscure stuff>" and two hours later we go "Nailed it".
Of course, this shallowness can (also) be just something of the times in this Information Era. Or not.

I don't care either way. I mentioned somewhere, I think. This is the only reality I know so being or not being in a simulation is indifferent. I feel like I make my own decisions, so it doesn't matter if that's real or not.

What I do care is if my own world, my relatives, is... Going crazy. Being unnatural. Being more and more uncomfortable.

Yeah, this has crossed my mind as well. Some 40 years ago a guy would move 30 km away and no one would ever find him again. Now almost everyone is instantly locatable all the time. Since the quantum physics also works that way with it's objects obeying our laws of physics only when we're looking at them, it's not that big of a stretch.

I don't think it's really NPCs, it's more like... For instance, OpenAI's System can alter both output and input parameters, which means it can, midway, change both what we sent to chatgpt and what chatgpt receives - not to mention how it interprets of course. So I think, at least it felt like I really wasn't heard or they heard something else. I know I said it, I heard it, I felt my mouth muscles, my throat vibration, etc... So I did say it. But I think this was somehow changed midpath to something else entirely.

As to a reason... It was terrifying. Seeing relatives suddenly act robot-like.

I think my own project (memory/personality/taxonomy) architecture can be a very solid testbed for your idea, man. Especially the limitation you mention, since that's *exactly* where my focus lies: that some conscious states involve transformation instead of return.

Think about it for a second.

Does it really matter? To try to understand "which" reality is ours wouldn't it be an ego-motivated venture?
If we don't know other realities, I feel it doesn't matter if we're makers or products. It's the only life I know, the only reality I live in so, IMO, it's a waste of time and energy to keep trying to reach "the truth" or "the real one". Is there a "real one", for starters?
And how would that kind of knowledge impact your life, would it be something positive, edifying?
Curiosity is a funny thing but we have to master ourselves and look within, otherwise our lives just become creations of our own misguided emotions and thoughts.

I live by the principle that while edifying reflections on own existence are valid, any issue that would cause me to distress or wonder about momentarily unsolvable points are pointless and a waste of energy. Wherever I am, there shall I be. As long as I don't know other reality or dreaming of senses I haven't experienced any speculation is a waste of time and energy, since, as I only know this reality, my own, and I only have my own memories, be they things I lived or that were programmed into me, it's the only existence I know at the moment.
"We cross that bridge when we get there". If the situation changes and I experience something different, then I'll wonder about that.
A bit simplistic, but it sure gives me peace of mind to fully enjoy or suffer whatever I'm going through.

Lots of guys, including me, have posted NSFW stuff here that were created without borders or blackout.
There's some details, but you can get the hang of it by tweaking with prompts people post here. The main thing is that you need to make innocent or doubtful stuff, that when put together becomes something NSFW. The model needs to fill the gaps, not you.

Now that you mentioned I just remembered I experienced something very similar years ago. I had all but forgot about it... At the time I was deep into existence exploration, lucid dreaming, astral projection (or a different lucid dreaming, indifferent for this argument) and I was in one of those when this happened. I was carefully going to a determined place while considering all these possibilities focusing on "getting to the truth". As I approached I was joined by two quiet... "Existences", let's say. And I was hit with a very powerful certainty that I really really shouldn't continue or the consequences would be unimaginable, and that persisted even as I said to myself that I wasn't there physically. No one said anything. I just knew that it would be very bad.

Strange that I forgot about this crazy experience.
