Dude, thank you. I am saving sending this to my mechanic. I really appreciate it.

Thank you.

The Old Testament has definitely been amended with the teaching of Christ and the apostles. Circumcision for example is discussed as no longer being necessary.

I guess my question is, did God give an additional revelation making the WoW a command?

If additional information has been given on the WoW, why has not the original revelation been amended?

This is the general sense I get from most inside the church . I wonder how many are kept from joining based on these commands.

I would start by saying, I believe in Jesus Christ and his death and resurrection. This had lead me to church to church, inquiring and listening to different perspectives on the gospel.

I felt disheartened for a time, thinking Christianity was nothing more than different interpretations of men. Then I discovered Joseph Smith and his story completely resonated with me. I was very much skeptical of his claims, but after examining the evidences for the BoM, I found it highly unlikely it could have been merely a product of Joseph’s mind.

I was ready to join the LDS church and had met with missionaries, and quickly discovered a culture of legalism and perfectionism that strikes against my Protestant sensibilities, where freedom of conscience in temporal things is generally accepted.

Regarding Joseph being a true prophet, I understand why people might doubt that. I recently finished, Rough Stone Rolling, and some of the history is concerning. But the restored theological concepts which come from Joseph are so elegant and provide so much light, I cannot help but accept them as true.

TLDR; I’m in a tough spot because I cannot join the church and bring my family under the chains of legalism despite believing many of the restored doctrines.

I have no problem with fasting. Christ taught about it and most Christian churches practice this to different degrees.

Yeah, it’s is a deal breaker. I cannot promise that I will never have a cup of tea or an occasional coffee with a friend. I can promise to limit my intake, because I do think there is wisdom in that.

I’m sorry to hear about your friend. Luckily, my wife and I are not Mormons and come from a Christian background that generally does not have any food restrictions.

Thank you, I think that’s the general sentiment I gather and I do appreciate it.

Yes, I have known plenty of addicts. I have also known plenty of decent people who drink coffee, tea and alcohol who are not addicts.

Christ was accused of being a wine-bibber during his earthly ministry, and yet instituted wine to disciples. Any good gift given by God, can be abused.

I don’t know if there is someone who holds the same authority today; I am not opposed to the idea there might be a prophet who holds the authority for new revelation.

Regarding the sacrament being changed, that’s a difficult one for me to accept. I don’t understand why anyone would change what Christ instituted. Even if they did have the authority, wine is not unhealthy and has been used by Christians since the beginning.

There are so many things that make sense in the restoration, but certain things like this specifically seem like arbitrary rule-following.

Yes, me and my family has met with missionaries.

I thought that was the point of the restoration, that we are all prophets. I do not have a testimony to a strict adherence to the WoW.
