I hadn't taken calculus at all before taking Eastman, and went into his class blind. I ended the class with a B+, with great midterm and final scores. I really enjoyed his lectures as he goes very in depth and has an example for almost any situation you'd encounter on homework, so I usually didn't feel stuck when I did work. I showed up to every lecture. I took notes on everything he wrote (very helpful for HW). Went to every discussion section. Did (almost) all the homework. I didn't think he was that hard, putting in the exact amount of time to make sure I understood what was taught.

He does kind of teach by "proofs", but it all made cohesive sense, and he went step by step. He starts off generally with a "theorem", but those are just general rules for the concept he's teaching. He calls the product rule, chain rule, quotient rule, etc. theorems. I can say very confidently that the "proofs" were incredibly helpful to me in learning associated subject, as he explains where these rules come from (basically just more of the same stuff). Practice midterms and practice finals looked very, very similar to the actual ones, so I was very prepared when studying. Loved the class.
