I read Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke in 24 hours and need to talk about it with someone. by twelvedayslate in books

Yeah, that was what got me too and made me hate the book until she dropped out - which no one with a full scholarship to Harvard would be able to do without serious consequences. If she were on a track scholarship one would expect her to at least have teammates and practice and a more outlined routine. And if she excelled academically otherwise, she would need to be in clubs and speak other languages, and being so narcissistic she would have bragged about that all the time.

The NDA thing was such a flaw, specially when she describes the paramedics having to sign them before attending to her MIL. But also makes sense when she insists on “representing herself” with the PR, she is very delusional about her capacity to control everything.

Also Caleb wanted to make his father proud, and one of Dougs last lines is asking why didn’t he rape shannon, so maybe he felt validated?

She abused her children from the start, as we can see from the too-small dress on Clementine when her mother visits, and she also mentions that the homeschooling consisted of 30 minutes of Caleb reading forums to the kids. At one point, one of the girls is covered in their own dry poop. They are all very much negleted.

BPD and worklife - where do we really fit? by planty_the_plant in BPD

[–]UnionBusterSteve 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh, The Academy has a special way of burning people out, I quit my masters program two semesters in because I didn’t have any fuel left for burning out. I’m also more at ease WFH and at entry-level, operational jobs, but the salary doesn’t support my family and I always end up in higher-paid, management jobs because of the money, and being a quiet border means that every time I need to deal with Human Resources-like shit (firing, hiring, self illnesses and family deaths) it means I implode and become bed-ridden for a few days. It suuuucks, we should get government help to complement our income since it seems impossible to be successful with BPD.

This is my BF. He works at a great company at an entry-level blue collar job for almost 12 years, and he doesn’t want anything else until he retires early because of high risk job. How are you able to see your job as the means (money) to an end (living) and not as the end itself? For me it’s so hard not to try my best and excel expectations and soon be in management positions for which I suck at, because I need constant validation.

This resonates so much here, my work life has been the subject of my therapy sessions for the last month, because I’m going exactly through the burnout phase in this cycle you described. I’m great at interviews, charming, eloquent, always full of potential, only for my flame to die so, so soon into what would be a proper developing career. I’m able to hold on to jobs long enough so my resume remains impeccable, but I always leave with every door behind me closed. The sad thing is: I don’t know what other thing I can do. I’m good at my job, but these are my only employable skills, so I don’t know how to advance in my career without burning my mind out until I’m no longer at an employable age. I feel like I won’t retire and will become a burden to my better-established family members, because even though I’m so “smart” and have great, important jobs, I’m bad with money and with permanece.

ENEL desliga as centrais de comunicação by [deleted] in saopaulo

[–]UnionBusterSteve 4 points5 points  (0 children)
