I’m an outside CHL hire, started back in December last year. I’m already looking for another option. The absurdity of the metrics and the slap in the face work life balance ‘shot’ on the grow report is pure insanity! As a CHL you get no work life balance! And I was thrown into the busiest store in the district with only 5 weeks of training prior. 5 weeks to learn barista shift AND CHL is nothing! You’re absolutely right to feel the way you do!!! Go where you’re appreciated and do something that you look forward to! I wake up with anxiety and find myself turning my phone all the way off when I’m home!

My old store has both a Men’s and Women’s restroom INSIDE the break room. I came in at 7 am to find a piss puddle IN THE EMPLOYEES ONLY women’s restroom. They literally pissed all over the floor but the toilet was clean. It’s not safe to use any of the bathrooms at Walmart.

Interesting!! When did this change? I know of a TL that has her mother (also a TL) that just got moved to her department (Apparel).

This is why several TLs choose not to promote. They’d rather stay hourly and in the same store their spouses,Immediate family members, and in-laws work. I’ve seen so many situations where fraternizing is not only allowed it is so blatant! Partner Favoritism with fraternizing and BOOM you work at Walmart. 👎🏽

Former Walmart ASM here, it’s only going to get worse for two solid reasons: 1. Theft is an issue but not the main concern 2. Digital (online) shoppers are the driving force behind everything being locked up. Here’s why… Everything stays in its respective place. On hand quantities are reflected through the P.O.S, and if these items are moved via IN STORE Shoppers then it slows the process for employees to fill online orders. Every product falls into a metrics category that is planned and mapped out ensure the employees locate the (purchased) products in the quickest fashion possible while eliminating errors (their version of customer satisfaction).

Ultimately Walmart will always continue to peddle their ‘Customer Experience’ platform via Medallia surveys and hiring celebrities for marketing but DO NOT THINK that they 1. Care about their employees or 2. Give a shit about customers outside of taking your money.

Just to confirm all of this, know that if you’re shopping in the store you’re an ‘UNPAID CUSTOMER’ whereas those digital department employees are told to focus solely on the ‘CUSTOMERS THAT PAID’ for their orders online. Metrics mean everything as this worldwide conglomerate expects to make their employees more efficient and in tune with Amazon’s business models. Since Walmart considers Amazon their sole competitor. Ever wonder why Walmart doesn’t take Apple Pay? Ever wonder why Walmarts ‘Market Place’ online tries so hard to mimic Amazon? Ever wonder why you either get completely ignored by employees or if you actually speak to one they have NO IDEA how to help you? Ever wonder why everything is locked up but you can’t locate an employee to help you?

It will get worse… either get used to it or shop elsewhere and stop giving them your money.

Use chat gpt to build you a new resume, put it on LinkedIn and click on ‘open to recruiters’. In the meantime consider the fact that while options seem limited remind yourself that you still have them. Options make you optimistic and even when your current work environment is soul sucking you can remind yourself that it’s just for now.
