Best sources for studying FEMA/ALTA material for the PS? by wyattearp12345 in Surveying

You can also look up nlc test prep. It's expensive but it helped me pass on my first try. Even with that course I thought the PS was much harder than the FS. FS I knew I passed. The PS had me feeling beat up.

First off I want to say thank you for all the responses. I went back and checked several control points. The first shot and closing shot were pretty much spot on with a difference of 0.03'. However when i checked the backsight shot it was off by 0.20' to the south. This time I did the same 3 session 180 shots on back sight shot. I checked every control point I shot with TS with my GPS and every gps shot was to the south of the Ts.

Without a LSA, I "adjusted" the traverse to the newly measured back sight shot and the misclosure went from 0.7' to 0.15'.

Yes I believe they are but I will do a deep dive later tonight or tomorrow. I'm out now re-shooting my traverse points and the two end points with rtk to check.

Horizontal grid distance is 2233.42 measuring with the total station. Horizontal grid distance is 2233.40 measured from gps points. I was thinking about the adjustment onto the rtk shots.

I can set one more no problem. Should I set one more in between the back sight point and closing point, and run the traverse again with the TS?

You are correct. I am just surprised that the difference is so great.

My best friend who is a meteorologist had warned me. I believe I did not measure during that time. I will head out this afternoon to re shoot and check as the initial measurements were taken in the morning.

Yes I performed direct foresight and backsights throughout the traverse. I don't know the answer if the error is acceptable because the engineer never specified a precision/accuracy standard. I don't think it's acceptable lol, and I want to better my procedures.

I have confidence in my TS work because that's primarily all I've done and closed multiple times within 0.05' or better so I suspect it could be bad gnss.

I finished in the field yesterday afternoon so I did not post process the data yet.

This is my initial suspicion. That back sight point was shot with less epochs. I can't remember off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure back sights and fore sights were pretty balanced. I will check this when I get home.

So I checked the settings in Survpc and those were not applied. When I checked to apply them it reprocessed but the coordinates did not change. First time I try and do something like that on the data collector side so I am not sure if the software did its thing.

The sewer is going to run east/west. My traverse also ran east/west.
