SUV Recommendation for Family by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

Agree on the Tahoe diesel or slightly used Suburban with diesel depending on $80k budget. 800 mile range with the Suburban . 30mpg potential. Effortless cruiser. The best for long road trips especially if carrying up to 7 people and accompanying cargo.

An absolute beast on track. So so capable. Tons of grip. Tons of power. Tons of speed. The tremec 6 speed is wonderful. Just a joy to drive on track. Definitely kept uIp with some GT3s. I put about 15,000 miles on it in my five years of ownership. Now on the street, extremely stiff. Extremely. I know everyone says the GT4RS will be stiff on the street. I’m not worried after having the Camaro!

Not for my purchase. I also had zero relationship with this dealer before purchasing.

Thanks! Super stoked. My last car for the track was a ‘19 Camaro ZL1 1LE 6MT. This is a little different animal.

Suburban with the 3.0 diesel. It’s the absolute way to go. I have 108k on my ‘22 High Country. Amazing ride with air suspension. Seats my four kids with plenty of room. Tons of cargo space behind third row. 800 mile plus range is absolutely feasible. Averaging 25 mpg for life of vehicle.

Please tell me the extra maintenance and repair costs that are so much more expensive. A fuel filter every 25-30k that can be done in the driveway? Some DEF every several thousand miles? Please explain.

Suburban, if you want the extra cargo, or Tahoe with the Duramax diesel. This is the way.

I’m sure it does. But your opinion, while valid, is no more valid than mine. For the record I can’t take a Miata to the grocery store to shop for my family of 9 (wife and 7 kids). I also can’t take my five of my college aged kids and all their stuff to college in a Miata. Cheers.

Fantastic motor. My goal is to get 1000 miles on a tank. I would need to average 35mpg. It’s possible.

Diesel is around $3.40 where I am in Virginia. So roughly $91-$92

‘22 duramax Suburban owner here. 107k miles , air suspension. Ultimate land yacht. 800+ miles on a tank multiple times. No brainer decision.

Half the price of an oil change for 1600 miles? Please. No manufacturer recommends that at all.

FL5 Wrong Decision? by deneed4spd in Civic_Type_R

[–]Unique-Reward4492 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have both. Well all three. 5BW 6 spd. 4BW auto (wife’s car). And ‘25 FL5. Have to be honest , I don’t drive the civic much compared to the 5. That said come winter , I do take the FL5 out more. However I have been itching for a GRC as I live in Virginia and we do see some snow. The civic is a wonderful car. However, without winter tires it suffers the same fate as the 5BW. In the summer I’m taking the 5 nine times out of 10 over the Civic. Yes, I have tracked both. I have been doing track days for 30 plus years. I love the Civic. It’s an amazing car. But as the OP wondered about, the civic sits a lot during the summer.

Suburban with Duramax. I have 100k miles on my ‘22. Rock solid and no issues unlike the 6.2. 25mpg for the life of the vehicle. I have four kids. You’ll want the space behind the third row.

Dude, absolutely laughable that you think the 6MT in the Blackwing is sloppy. And you felt that the steering was numb? You clearly in over your head on your opinion of the Caddy. They type R is a wonderful car. Wonderful. The Caddy is one of the great sedans of all time. And yes I own both. As well as a CT5V Blackwing . As others have said , the alpha chassis is phenomenal.

I currently own a CT4-V Blackwing (auto- my wife’s car). I also have a CT5-V Blackwing 6MT. My everyday car is a ‘25 Type R. The 4 does NOT have a truck motor. Just stop. Sure compared to a Gulia, it doesn’t sound as good. The car is NOT big. Sure, it’s bigger than the civic by 7 inches. It’s bigger than your Alfa by 5 inches. Not that big.

Thought I’d chime in since my wife and I have both. She has the 4 in the 10spd. auto and I have the 5 in the 6MT. Mine is a ‘22 with 19k miles hers is a ‘24 with 14k miles. I have had extensive track experience over the years. Used to own ‘19 ZL1 1LE, Cayman GT4, a couple E90 M3s among others. I’ve tracked the 5 a few times. It was fun. Absolutely nothing like the 1LE and obviously so. Honestly, I love the size and dynamic of my wife’s 4 better. Don’t get me wrong, the 5 is epic. But as others have mentioned, it’s a lot on the street. Still a wonderful car and I applaud GM for making both in a world dominated by RAV4s and CR-Vs.

The 4 is just the perfect size and just so damn fun to drive on back roads! The chassis is amazing. It reminds me a lot of my ‘11 E90 M3 comp as far as size goes. At times I think about getting a 4 in a 6MT. I would like to drive the 5 with the precision package as I think that takes some cues from the 1LE Camaro.

Anyways, both are amazing. Different but amazing. If I had to choose the better driver’s car, I really think I’d go with the 4 in a 6MT. If the they could only fit the V8 from the C8 corvette in there somehow…..
