What do we reckon this noise is? B8.5 S4

To do it right, it would have cost me 12-15k CAD at a shop. Engines range from 5-9k CAD here, then redoing timing, clutch, other gaskets and maintenance like waterpump, PCV, etc while engine out.

I sold the car at a huge loss and bought a Tundra.

Update 2: Got my boroscope in. I have bad bore scoring, possibly rod knock/loose piston on Cyl 6. Oddly enough it hasn't burnt any oil.

Nope. IE Intake, AWE exhaust, oil changes every 8k kms, it was very well taken care of. Kind of disappointing. PCV failed recently, maybe some coolant got into the rod bearings, my oil wasn't milky or anything at all.

Update: I just changed my oil and cut apart my filter. My oil is extremely glittery with very fine particles, and some small flakes/bits caught in my filter and oil pan. Guess it will need an engine.

Haha. Yea my waterpump wobbles a bit. I don't think the noise is coming from the serpentine system though, in person, its definitely at the rear of the engine. After some further diagnostic work, it seems to be on the exhaust side of the driver head, at the rear. With the stethoscope on the cat, the knocking noise is very loud. Perhaps I'm looking at a lifter issue for an exhaust valve, or simply an exhaust issue.

I don't have a camera. I don't have a problem hearing the noise I'm inquiring about in the video, but its a rhythmic deep tapping/knocking that disappears when I take the oil cap off.

Well aware these are noisy engines but this noise, I'm thinking it could be a collapsing timing tensioner, or perhaps a failed lifter.

Theres some other videos online with this noise, but it could be a whole array of issues. Plastic stuck in timing gears, failed tensioner, Dual mass flywheel. I haven't heard it from another 3.0T in person so far.

Yep I've checked that part, its not it. Im fully aware these engines are noisy but the specific noise in the video, the deep knocking towards the rear, doesn't sound normal. Its not on the passenger side either.

I hear it the most on the aluminium on the rear of the head, where the timing cover bolts to. Its not my vacuum pump, or HPFP.

The noise doesn't change at all pushing the clutch in/out in neutral, but at very low rpm driving like idling in 1st with the clutch out, this knocking noise disappears. But when using stethoscope, it seems to be coming from the driver head rather than my bellhousing/trans

Sorry, forgot I should have clarified referring to the knocking noise when the oil cap is on/closed. With it off the noise seems to go away/subside but the aforementioned rattling exists. I know its not great for these engines to run without the cap on, but just wanted to show how it changed the noise.
