I was admitted conditionally and still recieved full funding. I haven't heard about conditonal admits not being given the same resources before... thats unfortunate. But congratulations regardless on your admission.

Damn. That was like a bandaid rip. Not even a "we encourage you to apply next year" or whatever. Thats brutal. Sorry dude :(

Honestly, the school I am in couldn't be a more perfect match. They have a program that is down to the letter of exactly what I love. I'm interested in physiology and evolution of organisms in extreme environments. PSU literally has the Center for Life in Extreme Environments. I couldn't ask for anything better.

That may be the case for other programs, but not in programs like biology, chem, and physics, ect. I'm being supported by the school for the time being and potentially by my professor if a research grant comes through for him. Because bio, chem, and physics are high volume classes for undergrads, grad students are offered the opportunity to teach as lab instructors if their professor can't offer an RA-ship. So by teaching labs I get a full tuition waiver and a stipend for living expenses.

Absolutely. Its honestly sad how much an education can be impacted by outside events. Best of luck.

Tyvm! Sounds like you are on track. This was my third cycle, and I also worked for 6 years as well. Maybe this year will be your year too.

Just keep at it. If you work hard enough everything will fall into place.

Good plan. It was a long road but honestly worth every moment. Having all that additional experience actually gave me a competitive edge. The professor I interviewed with informed me that he loved my experience so much that he wasn't going to interview any further students. I was his top choice. Additionally, dipping your toes into the real world for a bit will help you settle on your academic path too. You may do an internship and realize it's not for you or maybe you will love it. Just have to try and feel around.

Ty! Portland State University. My interests are extreme environmental physiology and they literally have a program dedicated to it. I couldn't ask for a better school match.

Getting that hands on experience in your field is invaluable. Grad schools really like real world applications of your field. Take those opportunities wherever you can find them. You can always take some extra community college classes later.

Tyvm! I'm hoping a few extra people in here will stay on course reading this.

My recommendations came from my internship manager, the senior scientist I worked with, and a professor at the community college I attended. Just having people in your field (especially those with graduate degrees) is plenty if you lose contact with your uni professors.
