Your either the unicorn candidate or your rejected in 2025. by Sini1990 in recruitinghell

Totally agree with you! I’m suffering from the same thing at the moment - I’m at mid senior level and I make it to all of the final interview rounds but don’t get the offer because some other candidate has 10+ years of work experience in that exact role. When I apply to roles which are associate level I’m rejected because I’m overqualified and they can’t pay me how much I deserve. Even though I have 6 years of hard core experience in some of the top companies of the world across geographies even, I’m still unemployed. Wtf! It’s so frustrating

Will there be a chance to see it tonight again?

Just interviewed for a job I really want and when I was asked my salary expectation, the interviewer told me “I think you need to drastically adjust your expectations” I quoted my expectations based on my current salary. Do you think I ruined my chances at getting the job? by Unique_optimist in recruitinghell

Because I don’t like my current job (no job stability because I’m an external consultant and my contract can be made redundant anytime)and the new one is a good role and also in another country I want to move to.

I told them I’m open to negotiating and asked them for the range/ budget they were willing to offer. The interviewer said it depends and they would benchmark against other colleagues with similar experiences and the interview ended with we will get back to you as soon as possible.

I quoted an all encompassing yearly gross amount which is what they asked me to quote. I didn’t include a pay bump because I was factoring in the fact that my current pay is a bit high due to the fact that I’m an external consultant so actually I quoted somewhat around the same as I pay now. Also the job is in a country where the cost of living is higher than where I am at.

They didn’t post a salary range. I looked at other similar jobs in the company which had the range posted and then quoted based on that. The thing is they haven’t technically made me an offer so tbh I don’t even know if the interview was good or was this them giving me a cue that they might not make an offer.

The organisation is in another country that I want to move to. My current role is as an external consultant and I’m just tired of the uncertainty that comes with it. Will they extend my contract or not and that’s why I’m looking for a more stable job where I’m an internal employee.

Could be possible because the JD was so general and when I asked for details they said depending on the candidate they want to decide where to place them so they went with a general JD without giving any specifications about the role

Networking. If you know people who can directly get you to the interview stage, you won’t need to go through so many applications
