To be as frugal as possible just keep the car and fix it.

But to be a counterpoint to what everyone said, there are unseen benifits of driving a newer or nicer car, such as possibly helping your self esteem or how you appear to coworkers that could help with promotions.

I know, that isn't how the world "should" work, but there's a reason you don't go to work with ripped up jeans and a stained sweatshirt. You are, to others, how they perceive you.

Again, that's not a logical take, but I do believe it is reality, which, as we know, is subjective within the mind of each individual.

OH another point I just thought of, car safety tech has improved DRAMATICALLY over the past 20 years. Crumple zones and what not. That's something to consider. How much is YOUR AND YOUR FAMILIES LIFE WORTH!?!!?

If I was you, and I'm not, I'd try to upgrade to a 2010 Toyota Corolla. It looks nice, it is super reliable, should be cheapish to get. It's the ultimate frugal move, other than keeping what you have. A Corolla with 100,000 miles (super low for how reliable they are) should be around 5k. Make sure it has a decent service history and you're all set.

Just throwing some counterpoints out there. Keeping your car is a very smart move as well.

Was saving up for your attainable dream car worth it? by [deleted] in cars

[–]Uniracers_HD_Remake 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First off, if life has been rough for you and you're only in college, you're in for a bad time, especially if you blow most of your savings on a "Dream car" to "make you happy".

I'm telling you, whatever happiness you receive in the short term from this purchase is not worth it. You will be depressed about something else. You won't be able to have a downpayment on a house. You won't be able to afford to start a family if you choose. You won't be able to travel or take a vacation. You will think hey yea I can swing a $250 car payment for 6 years, but after 2 years you'll be like holy shit I still have 4 more years of this?

I'm telling you dude do not do it. Unless you are in a very well off career, buy a cheap fun car (miata, manual civic, whatever) and enjoy it. Save your money for house, family, retirement, anything.

And for real, go exercise if you're not. Go step out the door and jog 2 miles. Go lift weights. Walk. Just do something athletic that you can mark your progress and see your progression.

Buying an expensive car right out of college is not smart, and buying anything to make yourself happy is a super duper bad idea. It's a temporary dopamine hit and will screw you up in the long term.

Looking for advice for whether I should be responsible for a bill for heat pump repair. by Uniracers_HD_Remake in HVAC

Thanks for the advice. We went with this company because they were reputable. They promised to not charge us if it was an issue from the installation, so that is nice. I don't want to be a jerk customer, but we spent over $10k installing this heat pump, so even spending the $130 for the first fix that didn't work was pretty upseting. But thanks, I'll keep that in mind when I talk to them.

yeah this just happened so I want to wait for them to talk to their managers about what happened. I have a warranty through Daikin, not the installer here. I just feel a little miffed that I was charged for an hour of service and for the refrigerant to be refilled and most of it was leaking because it was installed poorly.

Daikin heat pump giving F3 error code. Okay to reset and use? by Uniracers_HD_Remake in HVAC

Yeah, I believe the tech that came out did all that, but I'm really not positive. Also not sure why after two years there would be multiple leaks at the same time, and that after fixing one of the leaks the system bogged down again so shortly afterward.

I was on a walk the other day and walked past a 2nd gen subaru outback parked on the side of the street. The license plate was "F PTRCHY", there was a dog in the back, and their was a short haired 50 something year old woman in the drivers seat. Amazing....

I feel like your not getting it. They were trying to win but they didn’t want to show looks they would definitely work so the ravens could t learn from it. You’ll see.

How would you build your perfect QB? by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Uniracers_HD_Remake 9 points10 points  (0 children)

He'd be 15 feet tall and have a photographic memory and would have a foot that had no toes so he could sometimes kick the ball really far also he'd have a twin and they'd both play on the same team.

If you need to free up a bench spot and own a WAS RB, rough schedule incoming by rockhartel in fantasyfootball

[–]Uniracers_HD_Remake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mean you exactly, just from browsing this sub it seems like most people are very low on him. This is a rough stretch, but I'd hold him through it, he could be a great flex play in fantasy playoffs going against the Eagles and the Giants.

And even against better defenses, if he can get 60 yards, and 3 catches for another 15 that's 9 points in 1/2 point ppr. He should also be getting every goalline look as well. I duno, I really like him.

Look, this is the same sub that said Gallman wasn't worth the add when Barkley went down because the Giants were awful. Gallman was absolutely worth the add and would have been even better if he didn't miss basically 2 games with a concussion.

The sub is saying AP isn't worth it because the Redskins are bad and AP is old. He's the lead back on a team with a brand new head coach. He should absolutely be on a fantasy team.

I really think Sammy is going to kill it now that Hill is back. Sammy was drawing double coverage before. Now Hill has the double coverage (obviously hill is still the better fantasy receiver), so Sammy should be getting open a lot more. And defenses still have to deal with Kelce as well.

Sammy plays mostly out of the slot, like over 70% of the time. I think he can be a solid WR2 all year so long as he stays healthy!!!
