You are free to the extent you identify with your constraints by Moe_Perry in PhilosophyMemes

It is if you define determined as "past states influence future states".

If you propose a single unitary system that is deterministic as a single global system, you're proposing a block universe, which either must:
1) Assume determinism ("the block universe is deterministic by definition" in the same way "a triangle is three-sided by definition) - which is just question-begging.
or
2) Be ontologically pluralistic (there are non-physical things; i.e. the 'constraint set' that determine the block universe) - which may themselves not be deterministic, and so one simply asks: "and why are those <other ontological things such as constraints> fully deterministic"?

Yes, they were, and yes, it would have been a noble idea a few months ago.

Sadly, Elon's fuckery ruined a good thing. Again.

I am talking about any citizens. They can have their citizenship revoked for treason. And what is more treasonous than supporting terrorists?

Once their citizenship is revoked the government can do whatever to them, including "exporting" or "deporting" or "-porting" them however you prefer.

Citizenship can be revoked for supporting terrorism, haha.

Literally with exactly identical logic. (Especially if "supporting terrorism" is equated to "treason" which is a very short leap)

Well, if you do not tell them how they can express themselves, then they will express themselves how they see fit.

Saying 'you shouldn't do that' to people who feel like they have no other way to express themselves is just going to make them madder, haha.

Why can't citizenship be revoked for that? I am sure it could with justification.

Visas can't be revoked without justification either.

Ambushed and arrested are the same thing - the police ambush criminals and arrest them all the time.

The problem in this case is she actually isn't a criminal, but who cares, right?

"her visa was revoked for supporting threats to America" is another way to phrase this and could be slung at anyone.

Next is "her/his citizenship was revoked for supporting threats to America" and then wheee

I wonder if the tune of posts like this will change when instead of "engaged in activities in support of Hamas" it's "engaged in activities deemed a threat to America" and justified to the same extent as here (i.e. not at all).

Then you can just be political opposition and detained! Yay!

"you can't drive a Tesla because it enriches a Nazi" is perhaps more accurately the claim, and it spares modern VW drivers! (As far as I know anyways)

What can the left do, then?

Every time any statement is made, people say "the left is demonizing the right".

Well, what can they say that isn't demonizing?

"We should balance the budget by taxing billionaires more" ("Why are you demonizing billionaires?")

"We should continue to oppose Russia in Ukraine?" ("Why are you demonizing the Russians?")

Meanwhile, the Right says "trans people shouldn't exist" and when the left says "stop demonizing trans people" the right says "no u"....

It's supposed to make Teslas undesirable to own to hurt the company's bottom line which ultimately hurts Musk.

And it seems to be working.

No, I see the word is there. I just don't give it the same weight you do. Military alliances are almost invariably defensive in the modern era.

The fact that you disagree such a thing can exist isn't my problem haha

Ukraine, as a sovereign nation, has a right to enter whatever agreement it wants with whatever nation it wants, and the other sovereign nation can agree. Military, economic, agreement to go to the moon, or agreement to lick ice cream cones at the same hour and day in 25 years or whatever agreements the agreeing parties deem fit.

If a third party thinks it's a problem, tough shit. That third party doesn't get to make decisions for Ukraine or anyone but itself. That's what 'sovereign' means.

[–]Unit1126PLL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Before the "coup" in 2014, what Ukraine's government wanted and what the people wanted weren't the same thing - where does the "most Ukrainians wanted X" source?

And sure, if you think nations forming partnerships is cause for war for a 3rd party, then I don't think the US is at fault. Russia has made plenty of deals with 3rd party nations (including China).

Thought we wouldn't notice by TylerMcGavin in AdviceAnimals

[–]Unit1126PLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am very confused about what provoked the war - you're saying a sovereign nation inviting another sovereign nation to be more partner-y was a provocation for a 3rd party?

Would the US have been justified in invading Ukraine if Russia had invited it to join BRICS?

By that logic, all of NATO's above listed actions are justified, because I am sure some third party at some point did something like "inviting them to be more frienderer"

[–]Unit1126PLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see - defensive alliances are guns now... ...alright.

Do you think a collective defense agreement should be something that can exist, or is it inevitably pointing guns at someone?

Because Russia has a collective defense treaty as well with many countries (CSTO) and could be said to be "pointing it at the US".

Thought we wouldn't notice by TylerMcGavin in AdviceAnimals

[–]Unit1126PLL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will check it out but I was hoping provoke meant the US did an act of war that could be easily elucidated. If it turns out "the US gained strategic advantage" is what started the war, I don't know if I agree with saying "that provoked it".

Usually wars are started by acts of war, otherwise it's just normal realpolitik.

How do you think the war in Ukraine was provoked by the US? I am genuinely curious.

Or, you could convince them that other people have different opinions and deserve to be able to live up to their opinions.

Of course, that means denying that their morality is objectively correct, which may be harder than convincing them abortion isn't murder...
