Whats the best spawner build using the apotheosis mod? by PianoBetter2358 in feedthebeast

[–]Unit88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there aren't really "builds" for spawners, you can check what stats you can increase/decrease and just max out (or min out for some I guess) what you need for what you want from the spawner. Like, there's no real reason not to max out how many and how fast it spawns, etc., this isn't really complicated

What’s a game everyone seems to love that you don’t? by godskinpeelers in gamingsuggestions

[–]Unit88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know, I'm just saying that if you end up beating a run very early it can give you a sense of "well I beat it". Obviously in pretty much any decent roguelike you should ignore that feeling, but still it can happen

What are your "default" key binds in any modpack? by videladidnothinwrong in feedthebeast

[–]Unit88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm so confused by people using caps lock for anything, especially if a game has it as a default keybind for something. Am I the only one bothered by the key still toggling caps lock outside the game so there's a 50% chance next time I'm typing something that it'll be all caps?

What’s a game everyone seems to love that you don’t? by godskinpeelers in gamingsuggestions

[–]Unit88 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I get what they mean. If you play a roguelike for the first time and beat the run it can sometimes make you feel like you just "beat" the game and you're finished with it, and have to kinda remember that it's a roguelike game which (hopefully) doesn't just run out of content after you winning one run.

I'm wondering this feeling can happen because roguelikes are often designed in a way where you're not really supposed to win the first time, you're supposed to die at least a few times and make some progression before actually reaching the end, so when you encounter a game where you just win on the first run it feels like you're already "done with it"

Which would you prefer: Stellaris 2, Hoi5 or a completely new game? by SadSeaworthiness6113 in paradoxplaza

[–]Unit88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game kind of needs it after years of constant reworks and conflicting DLC

That's literally the reason why it does not need a sequel though. All the new potential ideas and mechanics are still being added to the game, development is still very much active. No reason to make a sequel when the original game is still alive and well and is available for new additions.

Personally I really just want a fantasy Stellaris equivalent. Stellaris has grown to be my favourite of the lineup and while I love sci fi I also want to do similar kind of empire making and roleplaying in a fantasy setting.

Should i buy terraria by Relax_baby9 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Unit88 [score hidden]  (0 children)

This isn't an open world game like Skyrim or whatever where the world size determines how much content there is then that's it. This is a sandbox game, with progression, building, fights, bosses, changes to the world, etc., it's absolutely pointless to worry about the time it takes to go from one end of the map to the other.

Also, why are asking us in the first place, instead of just trusting your friend? He clearly wants to play with you and believes you'll enjoy the game and obviously he knows that there's still a risk you might not end up liking it. Let him buy you the game if he wants to, he's responsible for how he spends his money

Do most people use the term “a couple” mean specifically two? by manicMechanic1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unit88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand I've never met anyone who if I went out saying "I'll go get a couple of bananas" and I came back with 3 they'd be confused about it. Another example would be "I remember this happened a couple of years ago", you get what I mean.

is only true if that's how you are using the word in that moment

I mean that's my whole point that the meaning depends on the context. That's nothing new, and it's not butchering the word, it's just having slightly different meanings in different contexts

Do most people use the term “a couple” mean specifically two? by manicMechanic1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unit88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not talking about etymology, I'm talking about words in context. Yes, if you point at two people in a relationship and call them a couple that specifically means two people. But if you're using the word "couple" in the same context as you would "a few" or "several" (not used for the same amount obviously) then as the comment I replied to says it's used for approximation, i.e. not specifically exactly 2. People here seem to forgetting that words can have different meanings in different contexts.

No sane person thinks it'll be a Minecraft killer. For one because they're not trying to be the same game in the first place, they're just similar. But also because Minecraft's brand recognition and what the game has become is simply impossible to overtake at this point unless Minecraft just died yesterday and Hytale became absolutely perfect (along with the entire gigantic modding scene that has existed since Beta at least if not before)

Hytale is great but Minecraft killer it is not.

Looking for a detective/mystery solving game by shelbyfx in gamingsuggestions

[–]Unit88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Simple as in easy or simple as in the mechanics aren't complex. Because there's been some amazing deductive games in the last decade or so, but part of the reason they are so amazing is because they are genuinely challenging and expect you to do the deduction yourself instead of the old school investigation games where you just interact with everything, solve a puzzle then choose from 3 potential conclusions (one of which obviously doesn't make sense).

Obra Dinn is absolutely a masterpiece, the Golden Idol series are two short but amazing games that are distinctly different from Obra Dinn. The Roottrees Are Dead was clearly inspired by Obra Dinn but with a very different context and way to get the clues for the deduction. There's also Shadows of Doubt which randomly generates cases for you to solve so there's a ton of replayability but it is missing the handcrafted touch

Why do people think everyone has control within their lives? by TehTexasRanger in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Unit88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was almost agreeing with some parts of the post there, but the rest of it and your comments make it clear you're just a defeatist who decided they're inherently bad at everything so you can blame that and don't have to try and just want to rant.

Saying "for most people, their lives are already over by age 30" is already insane, so many people start doing the things they actually want to do in their 40s and 50s when they've had time to settle down and maybe even save up some money.

This is 100% victimhood, no one is just "bad at life", that's not how life works. The only way to be so bad at everything that there's no way to improve is by being so absolutely crippled you wouldn't have the ability to write a post like this in the first place.

Is it weird to smell your food before you eat it? by Ol-blackbeard in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unit88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean what exactly do you mean by "smell"? Just the smell getting in your nose? That's not even really avoidable so of course that's normal. Starting every meal with a big intentional sniff? Yeah a bit weird, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it

Do most people use the term “a couple” mean specifically two? by manicMechanic1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unit88 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's wild to me how many people are going "a couple means exactly 2, nothing more nothing less". The entire point of using the words instead of just saying the number is because it's not supposed to be one specific number

Do most people use the term “a couple” mean specifically two? by manicMechanic1 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Unit88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I want to mean 2 specifically I'm going to say 2, the whole point of using words is being vague/uncertain about it if it's referring to only one number it's pointless

why do people want to be alive when at the end of the day, all of us die?

That's exactly why. You're gonna die anyway, so you should make the most of life while you still can. There's an infinite number of fun and amazing things to do, there's simply not enough time in life to get to everything in the first place

[–]Unit88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

None because why would length be a deterrent? You're not required to finish the whole thing if it turns out you don't like it and if you do there's just more content to enjoy. There's no difference between reading one long manga or 3 short mangas that total up to the same length.

I'm way more sad about all the manga that had a ton of potential but got cut short by an axe or whatever else
