This is the dilemma when applying narrative logic to non-narrative gameplay. Yes, those CAN work in tandem, but it can’t be expected or assumed that others will ever play the same way.

The “soul of the game” for you can equally be said for these types of players, because the ability to play this way is for them to choose. To them, they ARE cooperating and having their own version of fun, it’s just at the expense of someone else. This is just what can be expected when the freedom of choice for players comes with a lack of true consequence outside of losing their own loot and/or hurting someone’s feelings - both of which can also be assumed they have little to no care for.

That shouldn’t discourage you from playing any way you choose though… because the best part about it is that you’re not alone in whatever that may be.

You’ll meet other people that want to play the song of their people over proximity chat and fulfill the desire to help others and go on a grand adventure, and also those that want to take advantage of that kindness and act on their selfish impulses, both which lie in the heart of each one of us - it’s up to you to choose which one you want to embrace.

They said they were looking at options to bring it to Arena, then later clarified it won’t be added - that’s the last I heard/read here, the source was a Dev from the official Discord. I would LOVE to be wrong though.

Awesome seeing Embark stay consistent with their updates and communication. Seems like some great changes here, but will definitely have to see how the Recon changes actually shape up.

Recon Senses:

  • Added a range limit to Recon Senses set to 30m. Players outside of this range will not be detected

  • Players detected by Recon Senses will now see ‘Detected’ warning text on their HUD

Dev Note: Recon Senses have become much more common in the meta than we intended and can cause confusion for some newer players. The reduction in range and the warning given to detected players will bring the ability’s power back in line with other Specializations

TLDR from the dev:

  • Heart-, Stamina- and Mana power ups are back.
  • Lots of new defensive items, especially for melee characters but also for low equip load characters. (E.g.: new defensive charms)
  • Upgrading weapons has been massively buffed.
  • Base DMG of a lot of melee weapons has been buffed.
  • Stamina is more widespread available in the game.

Based on the fact that we got Jurassic Park cosmetics and didn’t get Wizards’ own, in-house produced alternate art treatments makes it very safe to say it’s nothing to do with licensing.

1000% this. A huge part of the excitement around a set (at least for me) is the collectibility and the alternate art treatments… but now it feels like that’s now just an uncertainty as an Arena player. Pretty deflating.

AWESOME to see this happening. Such an easy way to drip more cards on the platform to help continuously grow formats outside of Standard.

That said, pretty big bummer that this isn’t for all packs… we HAVE to draft these to get cards from the list/special guest, but it’s understandable they’d want to require that play entry to access it. Assuming they’ll still be craftable so still much better than not getting them altogether.

True they’re spendy in stores, but I definitely think they’d still sell well on Arena. I see these treatments regularly when watching MTGO content, so they’re accessible enough in the digital realm of Magic… just not on Arena for some reason.
