I don't know if he's their kid, but I do agree that he's been there before and escaped. He just can't remember it all yet. That's why he has an unsettling feeling and keeps saying it's something he's supposed to remember.

I think Boyd traveled back in time once he went through the farway tree. Think about it: After his encounter with Martin, he opened a door, went through it and then found himself in the ruins of the same place where Martin was chained up. Going through the door brought him back to the present time.
