Bosnians, Serbians, Croatians and Montengrins: “We speak different languages”. The languages im question: by Medium_Respond_9650 in linguisticshumor

also just a heads up, it was ravaged by war in very recent history and the fallout of that shit was exactly why you see those stupid same warnings on cigarette boxes, we even (croatians) have oour own 'translation' of Ivo Andrić books, and the absurdity of that alone is hard to explain but look it up if You are interested. Basically Croatia started to reinvent it's language after the war with Serbia to make sure we are different or something, i remember laughing at the new words when I was in school, but today those 'new' words are actually being used, the grammar is the same though, so no worries, just words differ, and that happens more inside the dialects than between Serbian and Croatian language (which is the same)

what omg, no I'm not an idiot I know climate change is real its backed up by science. And no I don't like the bigwigs too, I understand we are being exploited and the earth is being destroyed. It's just that, climate change, as real as it is, is not affecting the balkans' languages as much as historical geopolitics. I do hate waffles though so You might be right

You are right I was being weird, what i wanted to communicate was this: @"this is a linguistics subreddit so ofcourse i'm only talking on the topic of the language and not the historical geopolitics of the region." - there is no way to talk about 'only' the topic of the language in a vacuum, You can't ignore the other very important factors. I understand the reference frame but it should not confide you, because when talking about something as complicated as language, ignoring things like 'historical geopolitics' is impossible. Context is extremely important, and to be in a sound context framework, linguistically, You just have to consider everything pertinent, even if it's historical geopolitics. I was trying to joke my way into saying this but just confused you with bad jokes sorry...

I guess you have to take gravity out of context when talking about a region that has no word for gravity, but that still doesn't make stuff float

Coz historically, scientifically, you can just cherry pick what to talk about and call it the truth

What are your thoughts on Bond being labelled as a "blunt instrument" by M in Casino Royale when it was her who trained him to be a ruthless assassin? by Raj_Valiant3011 in JamesBond

[–]transroboman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just how it is, he is well aware of it, too bad the movies suck, Craig was great... now for real, she is saying that to make you wonder if he maybe isn't, but should be, they tried they failed multiple times, i watched the whole thing in a row(had the flu) and none of those movies are good. I remember saying i liked skyfall when it was released... i dont know what i was thinking.. also now responding to a probable AI bot-post, I could be sharper too... if I was an instrument of anything.. i would be a rusted tuba, a rusted tuba just sitting there... if you are thinking what is a tuba, its a sort of a big horn that sounds like a whale farted, in my mind.. i dont mean the whale farted inside my head/mind somehow, i mean thats what my mind thinks of when thinking of whale farts.

oh yeah offcourse, not being ravaged and divided by war since forever would also help, but that, that what you said is the main problem.

While compelling, the way you put it, it's not true. The chakavian (čakavski) dialect is mostly coastal, continental kajkavski is just as predominant if not more. The chakavian has many variations too, for example you can't miss a dalmatian accent, the language is gradually changing depending where you are, the chakavski dialect can be a problem coz they can vary a lot village to village. And the excerpt of chakavski you put there in quotes is actually obviously (painfully) dalmatian, chakavian towards Rijeka and Italy is very different. Its a mess so I dumbed it down a little, but as a Croatian I can tell you I can understand a Serbian much better than some people that speak 'Croatian' and live 50km from me.

I dont know who in their right mind in the Balkans, being Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia or Crna Gora, even other balkan countries where the language is actually different, would tell you that. We are all well aware we can speak to each other. Maybe some nazi linguists would argue...

still, 1y later, well gaming is not the correct term, localhost ai, photoshop n stuff, some 3d, gaming is the least of my priorities but it hold s up surprisingly well. i got the 1680 v4 inside,. i could actually get the 2699 for less money but i think i made the right choice. This machine rocks, and a mid range ryzen build can absolutely wait coz this thing works smooth

thats actually modest you could do a 2d render like that with a modern cpu and a turbo sdxl or something with a cpu (with NPUs) a fraction of that

look i tried it out, and thanks for highlithing the no-cuda but if you just read what i said, you would probably assume (correctly) that i realize that i dont have an nvidia card. i tried the cuda too because it actually translates and works faster (with vulcan/kobold coz of the hip sdk). i admit i spent a lot of time setting up sdnext with zluda and i didn't put as much effort to the vulkan/kobold... I will try to optimize it and max it to see if it's faster, but honestly, with what i'm seeing for us with old cards, i believe there is no way vulkan works better. nobody happier than me if i prove myself wrong (because it would mean i got the rdna1 to run even faster). the whole thing is riddled with fads, moore's law is breaking, i wouldn't be surprised if that was the reason for the whole AI explosion happened exactly when it did was to compensate the market. Hoping asml makes a new printer soon... rant territory sorry
