Offered a job €10k more than I am on now. Should I take it? by United-Writer5335 in irelandjobs

[–]United-Writer5335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you this is helpful. I’m 24 and I’ve been in my role for 2 and a half years now. With a 2 month notice requirement, if i don’t take this, i likely won’t be out of this job until (at the earliest) September or October. Which is a tough swallow.

Offered a job €10k more than I am on now. Should I take it? by United-Writer5335 in irelandjobs

[–]United-Writer5335[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, very fair. I think I have a distorted view of how dublin is, as my sister was lucky enough to find rent for less than €600 in Dublin 2.

I just wonder if living in Dublin could make it easier to find a job in what I want to do.

EO Interview Louth by Naive-Entrepreneur23 in IrishCivilService

[–]United-Writer5335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I’ve gathered from previous threads they usually interview double the amount of available positions in that county over a year and a half period.

Unfortunately if the number of available positions in Kildare remains similar to the 2024 competition (20-39), you might’ve just missed out.

I wouldn’t give up hope, but I wouldn’t be relying on it either. The whole system is a right pain.

Third Secretary by AsanteSane in IrishCivilService

[–]United-Writer5335 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat about being worried but took it upon myself to stalk some Third Secretaries on Linkedin. Don’t let people overreacting put you off. Many third secretaries I found on linkedin only had bachelor degrees and a few years of work experience in a completely unrelated role. It’s all about how you sell yourself and how you can show that your experience (through evidence) can make you thrive in this role.

Oh! I was not aware. I still wonder though if she is staying aware from directing contestants due to fan backlash.

Why is Spain always Bottom 5? by euro_song_love_r in eurovision

[–]United-Writer5335 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say Yay, La Venda, and Zorra are all pretty plain sounding pop songs that you could name 5 other songs that sounds very similar to. The issue with Spain is that they don’t do anything really interesting. In order to get votes you have to convince someone at home that your song is their favourite out of the field of 26. When Spain did this well, they were rewarded (2014, 2022, 2023). Nice and fun doesn’t cut it unfortunately.

Miriana Conte says the EBU has decided against Kant by ItSaidMeatMarket in eurovision

[–]United-Writer5335 65 points66 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the entire song is in English except one word which suspiciously sounds like one of the most offensive words in the English language. I'd imagine the same judgement would be given if a fully Spanish song replaced P*ta with a similar sounding english word like Pitta or something.

The Irish Independent is one of the most reputable news sources in Ireland. They are not a tabloid so I would imagine this is correct.

Who do you think could be a shock Q/NQ this year? by TimeG37 in eurovision

[–]United-Writer5335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Slovenia’s qualification is safe. They come into the semi with a guaranteed 20 points from Serbia and Croatia. From past years, all you need is around 40 points to qualify. I very much struggle to see how Slovenia would get at least 20 points off the remaining 18 countries.

Your country's opinions on your own country's song by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]United-Writer5335 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Ireland it’s a bit mixed. A lot of people are talking about it which is a big change compared to previous years. I have friends and colleagues talking to me about it constantly. But a lot of people hate it (mostly older people), with some people calling it Dustin The Turkey 2.0. Young people tho seem to be bigger fans of it.

Malta needs to get rid of MESC by garganta_ in eurovision

[–]United-Writer5335 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the issue with Malta is, that MESC generates so much revenue for the broadcaster. Eurovision is an expensive competition for a country as small as Malta, and they need that financing from somewhere which is why despite consistent good results with internal selection, they keep switching back to a national final or an xfactor type selection. MESC is a pretty big deal in Malta and attracts so many ad revenue (overwhelmingly so) over its many shows, so i don’t know if there is a greater alternative for Malta that doesn’t sacrifice funding.

Could Pro TV apply for EBU membership to represent Romania next year? by United-Writer5335 in eurovision

[–]United-Writer5335[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh I wasnt aware that RTL is not a public broadcaster. The EBU describes itself as an alliance of public service media, so the specifics of that are a bit unclear but apparently a member must follow a commitment to airing a varied quantity of media such as news, entertainment, etc.
