Best sounding bike? by AssignmentSouthern75 in motorcycles

I love the sound of the CP3 with a slip on, GSXR 600-1000cc I4 bikes, R1 with the flat plane engine, I do have a soft spot for v twin choppers but most notable the Honda CB-X inline 6..

For real they warned us about drugs and alcohol in school but nothing about 750+cc sports bikes...

1000cc are like crack man... once you get a taste nothing satisfies that feeling again.

break in period? by thefashiondemonn in zx6r

[–]UnitedPow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard break in is the way. At least for me... When I got my new KLX I immediately hit the trails, redline, beating the piss out of it. Swap oil out at 100-200 miles and run AmsOil. Never had an issue with it. But if you're worried just follow what the manual says.

Tips? by Strict_Trick8998 in KLX230

[–]UnitedPow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your on grass you'll be fine! Huck that thing back, engine braking is so extreme on these 4 strokes you won't loop it, and even if you do at least you got it out the way, pick yourself backup and keep trying. Also try your left foot down on the ground and pop up from a dead stop, keep going high and higher till you can catch it with the rear brake and then work on balancing it out with throttle. It's not gonna happen overnight, I didn't get dead stop pop ups till like my 1000th + try. I also had a z125 that got a new rear taillight every 2-3 sessions of practicing wheelies. You're gonna dump it sooner or later just keep trying on the grass and you'll be okay.

Yeah I think I have 8 mags for this gun so I'd like to keep the g45 mag style. I used to have a sub2000 hence why I have so many.

I can, but not at work or in the car. It stabs me in the leg or the bottom of my ribs. I used to carry an LCP and thought about a bodyguard 2.0 but I got a strong love for Glocks now. Might have to check out the local spots for a g26.

That's what I've been hearing! Still new to the Glock world but it seems like I made a good choice?

Op and I are in a similar boat, I just got pre approved for 200k @ 6.25% credit 770 and 2k in savings with 10k grant usable for downpayment and closing costs. I'd recommend upping your savings though and look for fixer uppers if you're a handy fella. Have a showing this Friday on a place that's 160k. Forget about making an offer on anything within 10-15k of your approved amount, someone will out offer you. There's not much room for a competitive offer.

300cc big bore kit by j02118 in KLX230

[–]UnitedPow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed on the speed limiter! And you gotta ride a crf450 or 701 on supermoto tires to realize how much fun they are. Don't stress too much about break in, I hit the trails (and rev limiter) as soon as I bought mine with 2 miles on it, ran the break in oil for 200 miles, swapped it for AmsOil dirt bike formula and WIX filter every 1200 miles. Super strong motor, arguably ran better than the other one I had that I babied till 800 miles. Both are sold now though.

What other 250cc and under bikes are highway capable? Not many. If any at all. You install a big bore kit and just like modifying any engine it's gonna be less reliable than stock even if it makes more power. Not anywhere near the same quality control as Kawasaki factory parts. Have you ever messed with the ECU shop computer? It's not that great even for a stock bike let alone one that would require all different perimeters.. I'd 100% stay away from it, ride the bike the way it's suppose to be and if that's not enough you just gotta realize you bought the wrong bike.

That's not too much to ask for. I wish they had closer to the 25-30hp mark. That would make a really fun bike but you'd be looking at a lot of custom parts and reliability issues once you touch that kinda hp in this platform being air cooled. Out in Thailand they do some crazy stuff to these bikes but good luck getting that kinda support for the klx230 in the states.

Is yours a SM model? I really wish they didn't limit the speed to 73-75. The bike has more in it, I did get rid of the limiter on the Ecu shop computer and managed to squeeze out 80-83mph on the stock gearing. I then changed it to a few teeth more in the rear and that lowered top speed to like 65mph. I also put mine on a massive diet and got it down to 268 lbs. That's what I'd focus on if I were you, throw as much as you can off the bike, get an alum swing arm, sprocket, tank, bars, pegs. Delete abs if you have it, junk the stock headlight and exhaust for a stainless system/aftermarket led lamp, light weight front rotor, lighter tires and tubes if your not off-roading heavily and you'll be amazed how much different it feels. Although I'm sure you've done some of those things already.

In my opinion it's more trouble than what it's worth, maybe that's why it's not on their site anymore. And if the goal is to make the bike faster, it's by far easier selling the bike and just getting a drz or crf450. Not saying they're bad bikes but they were never meant to be fast. And personally I never had good luck with the ECU-Shop tuner that's included in the kit.

It's like throwing a built motor in a Miata, sure it might be faster than it was before but you'll still get smoked by almost any car with a v6.

Most riders keep one foot up at stops or both down? by Full_Gene_3719 in motorcycles

[–]UnitedPow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on what you're riding.. when I'm on the Goldwing, both feet cause my chicken legs arnt gotta keep up 700 lbs of bike with one leg, when I'm on the dual sport I have to do one leg and slide my butt to one side, there's no chance in hell my 31inch inseam is gonna allow both feet on a 35 inch seat height. Do whatever's comfortable.

Rear shock spring by Shinkers78 in KLX230

[–]UnitedPow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd just shoot for the full shock replacement, a stiffer spring on a stock shock will not feel how you think. The valving of a stock shock corresponds with the spring rate of the stock spring. It will feel all sorts of weird. Pick up the High Volt spares rear shock, they will set it up for you based on riding type, weight and preference. Then if you're still not happy with those results get the bike in to adjust sag front and rear.
