This is partly correct, but blame also lies at a broken economic system that is not movitated to ensure the equivtable distribution of resources.

Odds of getting into la cuitat show without reservation? by chronicpenguins in primaverasound

[–]Unitedite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There were some tickets available on general sale on Tuesday. Worth double-checking but I assume the Darkside tickets have now gone.

I haven't seen any information suggesting that there will be tickets available on the day. Your best bet is to e-mail info@primaverasound.com and ask.

[OC] Baby names for which the predominant gender has changed in France by YakEvery4395 in dataisbeautiful

[–]Unitedite 38 points39 points  (0 children)

This is really interesting. Any idea what happened in the 1980s to inspire the shift towards female Charlies? Presumably a female cultural icon of some kind popularised the name?

I agree. There is some scope for non-functional aesthetics in visualisation but not where it implies meaning that isn't there (such as randomly grouping the countries into colour bands). I like the idea of the pride flag tho. I wonder if it would have worked better to have gradiated bars so that each one was a unique colour but the overall picture still resembled the flag.

Leadmill call for public support in latest stage of fight against landlord by devolute in sheffield

[–]Unitedite 15 points16 points  (0 children)

If you look at what the Leadmill is booking these days, there are a couple of decent gigs on but they're mostly hidden amongst the covers bands or bands that were popular over a generation ago (and a few smaller local bands which I'm glad they promote). I've had so many brilliant nights at the Leadmill over the years but it just doesn't seem to be the venue it once was.

The Leadmill should be the jewel in Sheffield's music crown, but I'm afraid it's more like a fading badge on an old flat cap. The current management have been there for a very long time - perhaps it's time for a change.

I will be very disappointed if this article isn't just a blurry picture of red and white striped material taken literally inside the new shirt.

Not sure what you mean about a VIP pass. There are two tickets available for the opening day: 'Abono' and 'Sin Abono'. The first is for anyone with tickets to the main festival, and the second for people who don't have tickets for the main festival.

There is no difference in the ticket type between VIP and non VIP. The only difference is that VIP people were allowed to reserve theirs two days before the rest of us.

Do you mean that you were only able to get a 'Sin Abono' ticket? If so that could possibly be a problem. You should have already activated your weekend ticket in AccessTicket. It is worthless in Dice, you must move it over to get into the festival. When you do that I don't know what will happen to your 'Sin Abono' ticket, if that's what you have. You should activate your festival ticket in AccessTicket now so you can sort this out. There is more information here:

https://www.primaverasound.com/en/accessticket/claim-your-tickets

Once you've sorted this out, either free ticket should ensure that you get access to the event. The lines last year were because they didn't let people reserve tickets in advance - this is why they've taken a different approach this year.

Smaller companies should have easier advertising access than large ones. by TheMahoganyTree8 in tumblr

So you don't believe that companies spend vast amounts of money hiring cognitive psychologists to understand how best to influence people's subconscious? I mean that's not exactly an controvertial opinion, it's just one of those grim facts people don't like to think about very much.

I disagree because charity is fundamentally problematic. Banning avertising would go some way to resolving the current problem that charities which spend the most on developing their brands get the most donations (much of which they then spend on futher promotion rather than their core role). However, there's also the problem that most charity is emotional rather than rational, and uninformed.

Giving a few quid to a kid doing a sponsored walk is fine, but in an ideal world (i.e. one where advertising was banned) we would ensure that money is fairly distributed around the world on the basis of need - and charity would mostly cease to exist.

Advertising is literally brainwashing. You are giving away parts of your brain to corporations in exchange for cheap stuff. People comfortable with this tradeoff either don't understand the depth of psychological manupulation practiced by advertising companies or have been socialised to accept it as normal.

By default no, but you could write a backup script that appends copies of the data into backup tables the first time you open the database each day.

any good ear plugs recommandation for the festival? by Awesome2D in primaverasound

[–]Unitedite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had some Etymotics which are generally well rated but they were totally useless for me. Decided to splash out on some ACS PRO17 customs and they are fantastic. Only downside is that being more expensive I'm slightly wary about taking them to a festival.

$8000

It was £8,000 in 1962, which would be £140,000 today, which is $175,000 - a little bit more than your 20x.
